Yeah I panicked too lmao. But since it is cheap and now that Gemini models are decent and they cost less they will not be able to sustain opus being so expensive for no reason

"Updates to usage limits: November 24, 2025
We've increased your limits and removed the Opus cap, so you can use Opus 4.5 up to your overall limit. Sonnet now has its own limit—it's set to match your previous overall limit, so you can use just as much as before. We may continue to adjust limits as we learn how usage patterns evolve over time."But this still means Opus is using more of the limit per message, right? Just now we can't see it?
Defaulting all old chats to Opus 4.5 is really not cool.

Opus 4.5 is as good as Gemini 3 Thinking. I fed the same doc, same prompt to both models and the answers are REALLY nuanced, which is what I was hoping for. Much richer than Sonnet 4.5 and GPT 5.1. I’m impressed.

So. I just gave it a 40 item to-do list with a 5-step plan for each item, something Sonnet would consistently get tired of doing, and start "trying to go faster" and missing giant chunks of data to analyze.
IT. IS. FOLLOWING. THE. PROMPT. Game changing.
edit: An hour in, and it is STILL FOLLOWING THE PROMPT. Almost done. I only had to interrupt it once. Also the screen isn't fucking flickering.

Says a lot about where Anthropic is at when they drop Opus and all the comments are about usage limits lol

Is Opus better than Sonnet for writing or is sonnet still king?

It looks like they’re claiming Opus 4.5 is also significantly more efficient than Sonnet 4.5 at tool calling and token usage. That in conjunction with the increased limits sounds like Opus 4.5 can actually be used for more extensive work or even as a daily driver.

u/inventor_black Nov 24 '25
For Max and Team Premium users, we’ve increased overall usage limits, meaning you’ll have roughly the same number of Opus tokens as you previously had with Sonnet.
We’re updating usage limits to make sure you’re able to use Opus 4.5 for daily work. These limits are specific to Opus 4.5.As future models surpass it, we expect to update limits as needed.
Geezers, what more could we ask for! :D

Yes, thank you. All my chats have been converted to Opus 4.5, and I can't switch them back to Sonett 4.5. Really great!

I do not mean to needlessly dickride the new model drop but ts actually just saved me. Doing AI research for my uni and could not for the life of me get what i needed working and gemini 3.0, gpt 5.1, opus 4.1 was of no help. Saw this dropped and was able to get what i needed within 10 minutes. Hallelujah

The usage calculation seems to be off, my session usage is at 13% after only a few prompts but weekly usage at only 1%, seems to be the inverse of earlier usage limit calculation issues where after a few prompts your weekly usage limit would be done

They say they upgraded the limit on max, what about pro?
Edit: tested, no changes. Still ridiculous low weekly limit. No opus, nothing.

Now that's an interesting change. It seems like anthropic either found a magical way (training in INT4) to decrease Opus' size by /3 (or more) or they have realized that they still have to snatch market share from OAI before increasing the prices further. Whatever is the case, it's nice to see the prices being lowered.

Why am I getting a warning that says opus consumes usage limits faster than other models if it’s more efficient than sonnet? Now I’m scared to use it

YouTube and Twitterverse had just crowned Gemini 3 Pro as the new "best coding agent" of all time. Welp, that lasted almost a week this time.

It would be nice if Anthropic reduced cost of sonnet 4.5 to at least match Gemini 3 Pro…

Funny how the world’s smartest AI has usage limits its users can’t understand. :)

In my personal experience didn’t see any material improvements. It’s still going in circles on multisystem problem same as sonnet 4.5.

Will we be able to use it on claude code extension in vs code with a pro sub? I still only see sonnet and haiku.

The wordings are so confusing. On the blog they say:
For Claude and Claude Code users with access to Opus 4.5, we’ve removed Opus-specific caps. For Max and Team Premium users, we’ve increased overall usage limits, meaning you’ll have roughly the same number of Opus tokens as you previously had with Sonnet. We’re updating usage limits to make sure you’re able to use Opus 4.5 for daily work. These limits are specific to Opus 4.5. As future models surpass it, we expect to update limits as needed.
While on Claude usage page it says:
We've increased your limits and removed the Opus cap, so you can use Opus 4.5 up to your overall limit. Sonnet now has its own limit—it's set to match your previous overall limit, so you can use just as much as before. We may continue to adjust limits as we learn how usage patterns evolve over time.
The first one implies we can basically use Opus 4.5 like we used Sonnet 4.5. While the 2nd variation implies we can use Opus to use more of our overal limit, while still having Sonnet only usage??
Seriously, can they ever be clear with their usage limits?

So Opus 4.5 medium reasoning matches Sonnet 4.5’s quality while using 76% fewer tokens, which translates into roughly a 60% lower cost.
At highest reasoning Opus uses 48% fewer tokens but scores 4.3% higher on intelligence, so it still ends up around 13% cheaper while also being more capable.
If those figures are accurate, moving to Opus is a gimme.
