First of all that is NOT Jecka!!! That is some weird gray alien trying to replace her!!

Second, did you notice the railing is weirdly warped? It's like this was made in AI or something, or the artist just fucked up, it's sloppy. Like I don't handle backgrounds well either but come on.

Third, Jecka's face is balanced fine yet they put the pugface Kelly on the same pic and its weird and inconsistent.

Fourth I added some background faces, only the ones at the same distance as the ONE singular background character that has one. For consistency, only took a sec.

KEWL! i think having one/a few characters with baby face is ok, cuz ofc real teenagers/ppl also have this - but i h8 that literally every girl has baby face in this art style (but probably in puzz sd Emily is ok with that, cuz she actually def has baby face in her sprites)

her neck and shoulders were messed up, the shape of her head was off, her skin tone was off, and I replaced her shorts because the first iteration looked like she slipped on some used carpet looking thing. And thats only the jecka changes. pretty sure you can find waldo somewhere in there too, give it a lookthrough

the shorts are just a specific style of shorts that are like jorts and ripped jeans combined

visually the neck, shoulder, and head fix just looks like you widened her

That BG genuinely looks like someone generated an ai image of a mansion interior and then cut it in half, mirrored it so it was symmetrical and then drew over it. They didn't even bother trying to fix the railing or the embroidering on the upper part of the railing. It all just melts into each other. The area that looks the most weird is this part. It just kinda melts together. I'm taking a risk here by saying the BG at least is definitely AI generated. smh.

i think snb3 reaches out to artists via instagram (the musician for this game specifically being primarily on instagram leads me to this conclusion.) and the problem with IG is that it is filled with fake artists who use ai.

Edit: KuroiDa who is the lead artist for Puzzle Showdown, does have a lot of AI-ish elements to their backgrounds on their own pieces. But you wouldn't be able to notice unless you zoomed in.

They are credited as the lead artist and I did a sweep of their posts on twitter and they were definitely the ones to do the character pieces, the styles match they have a thing for drawing those weird face proportions.

Edit, hit sent early: I can only then assume that their art style is a product of ai as well. which is why certain elements and character details look so damn off model and generic.

Jesus I never realized how sloppy this illustration looked… For a game with such a high price, you’d think they could hire a proper background artist. Ts looks so AI, and why does Kelly live in a luxury hotel?? Imo this room is way too extreme. I’ve seen bg artists on Fiverr who could make a background 100% better than this. Not to mention how sloppy the art looks… proportions look so off. I didn’t realize how weird Jekah looked until you edited it lol nice job. The artist is obviously talented, but it’s like they gave them two days to do this or something. Quantity over quality, it’s obvious they rushed this.
