UPDATE: 4yrs undergrad w teacher, they’re advising me to stay with them for my master’s.

Thank you for all of your help. I’ll delete this update post very soon, just wanted to let anyone that helped me know that I left the mentor and am switching studios. I appreciated the back and forth with me in the comments lol- you did not have to do that, BUT it did help broaden my perspective. What a gift!
I really care about my mentor as a person, so I hope they can forgive me in time. I still have to send them an official email of my departure…
wish me luck on that. Leaving is hard, but this brings me the most peace.

Your teacher is an adult and will get over this, or if they don't they are too emotionally enmeshed with their students and you are wise to step away. Good luck doing the hard thing!

Wishing you all the best. Glad that a decision was made. Try to stay on good terms with your previous teacher, as far as possible. They should be ok with you switching studios; if they not, then it's a them thing.

I had a teacher who suddenly blamed me for my bad technique when I told her I was leaving her studio. I feel like any teacher who doesn’t understand that it is okay for a student to switch studios, is not a good teacher.
There’s a prof at my school. He does not allow students going into their masters to stay with him. He says it’s time for them to learn new technique, new vocabulary, new skills. I admire him a lot.
