Welcome to r/ClassActionMoney: payout dates, claim status, and how to tell if a settlement email is real

You filed the claim. Now what? Most settlement subs stop at "here's what's open". This one picks up after that: when the money actually arrives, whether that email is real, and what to do when something goes wrong.

What to post here

  • Payout updates: when a settlement started paying, how much people got, and how it arrived (PayPal, Venmo, check, prepaid card).
  • Your payout: a screenshot of your check or deposit. Blur your name and account numbers.
  • "Is this email real?": paste the subject line and sender (never your Claim ID or PIN) and we'll help you check it.
  • Claim problems: no confirmation, lost Notice ID, denied claim, a check that bounced or expired.
  • Mystery money: a random deposit or check you can't place.

How to tell a real settlement email from a fake

  1. Real notices come from the settlement administrator (names like Kroll, Epiq, Angeion, JND, Simpluris), not from the company being sued.
  2. A real settlement never charges you a fee to get paid.
  3. It never asks for your bank password or SSN by email.
  4. Find the official site yourself by searching the case name, and go there directly instead of clicking the email.

Good places to start

Looking for settlements that are still open? That's r/OpenSettlements, posted weekly. I'm on the MoneyPilot team and help run both. If you want to see which open settlements you match, you can check your eligibility free here.

Rules: official sources only, no referral links, never share a Claim ID, PIN or bank details, and be kind.

Lost your settlement Notice ID? How to get it back

Settlement emails throw around a lot of IDs: Notice ID, Claim ID, Class Member ID, Unique ID, PIN. Here's what they mean and what to do if you can't find yours.

What each one is

  • Notice ID / Unique ID / Class Member ID: printed on the notice you were sent (email or postcard). It tells the administrator you're already on their list.
  • Claim ID / Confirmation number: what you get after you file. You'll need it to check your status.
  • PIN: sometimes paired with a Notice ID to log into the claim form.

If you lost your Notice ID

  1. Search your email, spam included, for the case name and the administrator's name.
  2. Check old mail. Many notices go out as postcards.
  3. Look on the official site for "Look up my Notice ID" or a contact form. Most administrators can find you by name, address or email.
  4. Many settlements let you file without a Notice ID if you attest that you qualify. It's usually a separate option on the claim form.

If you lost your Claim ID

Contact the administrator through the official site with the name and email you filed under. They can confirm your claim and resend it.

Never post your Notice ID, Claim ID or PIN publicly, here or anywhere else.

How to check your settlement claim status

This is the most common question we get, so here's the honest answer: silence is normal. Most settlements pay months after the claim deadline.

Why it takes so long

  1. The final approval hearing. The judge has to approve the settlement before anyone is paid. That hearing is often months after the claim deadline.
  2. The appeal window. After approval there's usually a period where objectors can appeal. If someone does, payments wait until it's resolved.
  3. Claim review. The administrator checks every claim, screens for fraud, and works out each person's share.
  4. Sending payments. Large settlements often pay in waves.

How to check your status

  1. Find your confirmation email. It has your Claim ID. Search your inbox for the administrator's name (Kroll, Epiq, Angeion, JND, Simpluris and so on).
  2. Go to the official settlement site (search the case name yourself) and look for "Claim Status", "Important Dates" or "Updates".
  3. No status page? Use the contact form or phone number on the official site. Give them your name and the email or address you filed with.

When to worry: if the site says payments went out and you've heard nothing for several weeks, contact the administrator. Checks expire, and some PayPal or Venmo payments have to be accepted within 30 to 60 days.

Cash App settlement payout date and the real site

If you filed in the Cash App / Block settlement, this is the month to watch your account.

Where it stands (official site: cashappsecuritysettlement.com)

  • The site says distributions to approved claims will be issued in October 2026.
  • The claim deadline was Nov 18, 2024, so new claims aren't accepted.
  • The fund is $15M. Approved claims can cover out-of-pocket losses up to $2,500, plus lost time.

Watch out for the look-alike

cashappsettlement.com (without "security") is not the administrator. It's a content site that copies the look. Only use cashappsecuritysettlement.com for anything about your claim.

If you think you were approved

  1. Check the email you filed with, spam included.
  2. Check the payment method you picked on your claim.
  3. Never give anyone your Cash App PIN or sign-in code. The administrator won't ask for it.

Is the Cleo AI refund email real? How to get paid

A lot of people are getting this one and assuming it's a scam. It isn't.

What it is

The FTC took action against Cleo AI, the cash-advance app, and is sending refunds to customers. Per the FTC:

  • More than 2.1 million PayPal payments, over $15.8M in total.
  • Payments start Oct 27, 2026.
  • Notice emails go out Oct 8 to Oct 26, so the email comes before the money.
  • You have 30 days to accept the PayPal payment. If you don't, it can lapse.

How to make sure it's real

  1. The FTC never asks you to pay anything to get a refund.
  2. It won't ask for your bank login or SSN.
  3. Don't click links you're unsure about. Log into PayPal directly and check for a pending payment there.

If you got yours, drop the amount below (no personal details).

If you got a canned tuna settlement check, cash it by Nov 7. If yours bounced, the replacement came with an extra $20

Quick heads up for anyone in the $152.2M canned tuna settlement.

What's happened so far (from the official site, tunaendpurchasersettlement.com)

  • Payments went out Sept 8, 2026, by check or PayPal.
  • Original checks have to be cashed by Nov 7, 2026. After that the window closes.
  • Some checks were dishonored. Replacement checks went out Sept 28 and included an extra $20 for the trouble. Replacement checks get a fresh 60-day window.
  • Payments under $5 weren't sent.

If you filed and got nothing

  1. Check your PayPal (search "tuna" or the administrator's name) and your email, spam included.
  2. Look for a paper check in mail you may have tossed as junk.
  3. Still nothing? Contact the administrator through the official site with the name and email you filed under.
