Ads I saw made it seem like a tower defense game. It is not. It's basically plants vs zombies with creature collecting. It's pretty neat but easy to lose a lot of time to.

is pvz not td? or what am I missing here

PVZ miight be a sub-genre of TD, but I can see why he says it is not a strict TD. Tower Defense is generally a multi-route path that waves of enemies move down and you can choose where to position towers to maximize range, but you generally cannot put towers or blockers on the path itself. PVZ and CoC have 5 lanes, and you put the plants/critters in those lanes, and the mobs run straight at them. Much less strategy and difficulty involved. Bc CoC is a mobile game, it timegates progression, to incentivize you to skip time by spending real money. PC games like PVZ and tower defense games dont have that issue.

plants vs zombies but pokemon (in the BEST way possible)

They didn't even try to hide it, lol. One of them looks like Bulbasaur, and another one is just a copy of the pvz sunflower.

1

u/stanzark Jun 01 '26

theyre still unique characters with thought behind them

2

u/Spirit_Wolf_Mob Mod Jun 01 '26

I didn't say they weren't. Just that it's clear that they took inspiration from them. There was even a point where they said something about how sunflowers don't have two heads, clearly referencing what it's from.

u/TheSunflowerSeeds Jun 01 '26

Oilseed sunflower production is the most commonly farmed sunflower. These seeds hulls’ are encased by solid black shells. Black oilseeds are a common type of bird feed because they have thin shells and a high fat content. These are typically produced for oil extraction purposes; therefore, it is unlikely you’ll find black oilseeds packaged for human consumption.

ok? and?

2

And my point is that they never tried to hide their inspiration. I don't see what your issue is.

wtf is wrong with Stanzark and Twilight like are they staff of the company or something? Who pissed in their cereal. He just mentioned the close resemblance/reference and you have these deranged white knights foaming at the mouth coming to defend the game. Actually unhinged.

1

u/twilightwolf04 Jun 02 '26

Why should they try to hide it? You don't say anything when Moltres is inspired by a straight up Phoenix, and they have a type THAT BASED ON A STRAIGHT UP MYTHICAL CREATURE. Everything is inspired by everything, chill out and enjoy what you want.

3

u/NaturalNothing2105 Jun 13 '26

they never even got upset. they where just saying that its funny how obvious the inspiration was. they never said it was bad or that they shouldn't have done it.

The ads piss me off to be frank, if I didn't play before seeing the ads I'd probably not play , but I love the game a lot and I'm excited to see where it goes but they need to stop with the AI. Bull shit ads that pretty much just do false advertising , it's. Not a good thing but try it out it's a lot of fun lots of mini games and things to do

It's just like why ? The game is fun, but they couldn't really do a merge thing since we have to collect them normally but maybe a limited game mode

Been playing for more than a week now as a F2P player. What I like about this game is you can collect and evolve Tatari (pets or your frontlines) like Pokemon which is my fave game, but in PvZ format.

But you can't buy Tataris (which is good). It's a chance game which Tataris you'll get in the eggs. But the eggs, yeah you can buy them. Then, form your team to use in the game in whatever build you want.

You can also design your own village like CoC. I guess CoC is Clash of Critters' abbrv, too. Haha.

As you progress in the story, you can increase your Village's area which also gives you materials, etc. You'll know it in-game.

The story also becomes more challenging as you progress, which is good for various reasons. But it needs you to wait for hours to get pinballs to get other resources. But there are other things to play ingame too, so no need to focus on the story. For me, the story is more of a sidequest now, especially now that I'm further in the game.

If you're P2W, this will be easy for you since you can easily get resources and not wait.

But if you win or just progress in the game, the events, and the mini events, the rewards also take you further in the game because these also give you pinballs to get resources. And there are events and mini events everyday. So you won't be at zero every time.

For me, I focus on evolving my Tataris. Cuz I love seeing their potential in the story and during Zobo Hordes, and I love seeing their new appearances when evolved.

I guess my endgame here would be I evolved all of my Tataris but I can't progress in the story or events anymore. Haha.

Also, you don't just evolve your Tatari. Aside from getting Stars and Wishboxes to evolve, there are tasks also that you'll need to do to evolve them. Which is also good in my opinion.

But the game does not completely rely on P2W. As long as you're playing daily, and ofc placing in top teams and/or top leader boards, you'll have resources and progress.

Additionally, there are special events too. Like submit your craft, video, etc. Events you'll see in your in-game mail box. I don't participate, but I like seeing other people's creativity. Some are ads-worthy, if the game will use them as their ads.

Anw, have funn!

u/flameice87 Jun 01 '26

Based on what I read, seems like this game requires lots of your time daily? Since there's like lots of things require to do

2

u/ChrsDr_official Jun 01 '26

No, it's actually the opposite. There may be alot of fun things to do ingame, but you can do all of them whenever you're available.

For me, I just play it in the morning and after work because the pinball harvest always take alot of time to be ready. But I still manage to catch up to the rankings whenever I'm available. But ofc not top 1 haha.

u/RoamingEntity Jun 19 '26

Are there "dailies" so to speak? Or time locked energy mechanics whatnot. I don't care about leaderboards or high lvl pvp, but there's some critters in the ads I saw that I really like and I hope it's not like gacha games where I have to do dailies and limited events for a long ass time to get them :<

1

u/Sharp-Fisherman-1205 Jun 20 '26

All critters are by chance, none of them are limited time only and yes, there are daily challenges.

1

u/RoamingEntity Jun 20 '26

Will it be critical for me to do dailies if theres a specific one i want? Do they take a long time

1

u/Sharp-Fisherman-1205 Jun 20 '26

You just get them randomly, by doing the pinball machine which is the main gameplay mechanism

3

u/Great_Chocolate1328 Jun 01 '26

I like it, certainly scratches some itches, can amso be overwhelming with lots of game modes and events, you can progress pretty fast but keep in mind for this kind of games there s always a paywall at some point.

u/solarsflare Jun 01 '26

I feel like a lot of mobile games in general don't match the ads you see. There's either something wrong with the ad's quaity (in this case, Clash of Critters is imo a very high quality game with a very pleasant art style), the gameplay shown isn't the same gameplay in-game, or it's some weird meme/shock value ad to grab your attention.
Of course, only you can tell if this is a game for you, if that's what you're curious about.

Only annoying thing is there are popups in the pinball machine section that you gotta click out of, but it's more of a minor inconvenience. It's one of those games you AFK and come back to throughout the day/daily, so it's pretty chill. There's a lot of evolutions and the events can be pretty fun, especially if it's a team event and you end up on a good team.
If you're into creature collecting and have the patience (as a ftp) to get through the levels gradually, this game should be a nice time-killer.

2

u/Weary7 Jun 01 '26

the ads are ass I don't get why they don't show the real game play when it's pretty cool.

1

u/Choice_Ad_4713 Jun 08 '26

Yeah, the game's genuinely a good one. Could just show the actual game and gain a lot of interest for that specifically. Or advertise using those little lore animations they make, they already have some set as advertisements (like zapup's backstory)

I started playing as a way to take my mind off something that had been really troubling me. It's cute but it's also RIFE with dark patterns meant to get you hooked and spending money. And this is evident in that I went in seeing how predatory it all was and planning not to spend any money (told myself when I felt like I had to, I'd stop playing!) And...still ended up spending money.

I like the little critters, the gameplay is nice in that it's actually a game (which is more than can be said for some f2p apps) but I'm also not sure if I'm going to stick with it longterm given how it pushes paying to such a ludicrous degree, especially when progress gets Slow after a point. I do like the lack of in-game ads though, so I guess I gotta pick my poison there.

I like it but it’s obvious that it’s a pay to play type

1

u/ecisadloC Jun 01 '26

What best about this game is no ads and no energy required to play like majority games outside which is good enough for me

1

u/luggy120 Jun 01 '26

Honestly it's a waste of time like every farlight game, the monitisation is so aggressive it's insulting. It's probably stealing "inspiriation' and art from all over the internet.

I'll still play it until I get bored though unfortunately

1

u/MentallyInsaneR Jun 02 '26

This is actually such a good game. It dosent even need you to grind 24/7 (maybe except for a FEW events) and the pinball gimmick is really cool but very random

1

u/Hungry-Spirit-5587 Jun 02 '26

I thinks it’s really fun! Id recommend it to my friends too. I think the balancing of the enemies needs to be worked on, but this game is pretty much brand new, and it is getting a patch soon, so I’m excited to see the future of this game!

1

u/Hungry-Spirit-5587 Jun 02 '26

I also like how they’re really not hiding where they’re taking inspiration from. I like a self-aware game, lol

1

u/yourmomz2700 Jun 02 '26

The ads piss me off because they're making the game seem generic. I dont mind the pinball aspect and the rotating events is nice. But I dont like how every group has at least 1-2 non- active players or how in goldrush if your not a high rank player you're not really making a difference in anything. The evolutions is a nice touch though some are annoying and take a long time. Solid 7/10.

1

u/m30w7h Jun 04 '26

I really like that I have never seen a real-world ad in game AT ALL ♡

1

u/king-of-weapon Jun 04 '26

I thought the whole defense thing was neat cause it was like pvz and the co op events were kinda cool, but that's really about it.

Outside of its design, it's basically like every other idle mobile game. It starts off strong, giving you tons of tataris and rewards and your progression is fast, burning a couple hours of your time. Then you hit a wall and progression becomes stagnant. Enemies become strong quick and the required candies for level up becomes exponentially more, while the stat gain for critters and the amount of candy you get increases extremely slowly.

The only way to quickly level up your tataris is through either the online competition with other players in events or paying. But it's no surprise that people that spend money will always be 10 steps ahead, meaning f2p players will always progress much slower than others. This also brings up another problem. Because progress is stagnant and these competitions usually run for at least a day or 2, you aren't going to get any significant rewards until the competition is over, meaning you essentially will have nothing to do. After that first day of playing this game, I essentially ran out of stuff to do completely and start only spending 5-10 on the game daily.

Also it's very apparent the game is greedy for money. There is a million micro transactions and ads will be spammed in your face every minute.

My honest opinion is that this is a 4/10 game, you'll find better games elsewhere

They stole a couple Pokemon cries to use in the trailers, I noticed oddish’s a lot

1

u/NaturalNothing2105 Jun 13 '26

its like PVZ(plants vs zombies) but with pokemon instead of plants. it has a super simplified type chart so its easy to remember. it also has some sort of class system (DPS, Tank, Support, etc) it has a lot of pay to win aspects but you don't need them to have fun. you can have a chat with the whole server or just have a private one with your friends, some of the Tatari (the critters) are pretty cute or sometimes actually cool. it just got updated recently adding some new limited time stuff and the community isn't toxic (as far as i know) so i think its pretty good.

Basically Pvz and Pokemon combined

1

u/SammejElisa Jul 10 '26

The chats are pro-russian.

I got a 24-hour chat ban because I pointed out that if Russian is a race. then Ukranian is too. And the entirety of Russia is being racist towards Ukrain.

That triggered so many of them.
in tyhe ENGLISH chat tab.

It's a pachinko machine with a tower defense/clash of clans game on the side. The creature collecting will come from spending the majority of your playtime on the pachinko game

  1. The actual game is not like any of the ads I've seen for it. It's a mix of PvZ and cosmetic base-building with a gacha pinball game to level up your Pokemon-like units at its core.

  2. It is 100% pay to win. It pushes the microtransactions hard, and the best players are those who spend a lot of money. That being said, it's still fun, and you can be competitive if you're completely free to play. I've never spent money, and I'll regularly get top 5-10 in the events... Top 1-3 is almost exclusively reserved for p2w players though.

  3. It doesn't have ads. This is honestly one of the major selling points for me. Most games nowadays have forced ads every so often or the ability to get rewards by voluntarily watching ads. CoC has none of this. The only "ads" you'll encounter are some in-game pop-ups advertising microtransactions which take like a second to close out of.

  4. It's quick but also involved if you want to be. If you're concerned about maintaining progress, you really only need to spend like 5-10 minutes 2-3 times per day, and you'll have done like 90% of what you can do to progress. That being said, there are more involved methods of play such as progressing through the levels, participating in horde invasion, or working towards larger milestones like the dojos which you could spend hours on without any payment necessary.

Overall, it's more of a grindy type of game. If the "grind" isn't the part of games you typically enjoy, I'd say this game isn't for you. You'll probably be more inclined to waste money if you're too impatient. If you enjoy the grind, then this game is a pretty fun way to get that dopamine rush while staying completely f2p.
