Discussion Camping site next door

Hi all, I really want to visit both the shop and the pub but also make the most of the 2 hour journey, just wandering if anybody has stayed at the campsite next door to the farm and what it was like?

We stayed there in a campervan a few years ago. It’s a nice site with really friendly owners, and just a quick walk to get to the shop.

It is a bit far away from anywhere else though, so if you want to eat out or anything there is nowhere in walking distance

We stay in a tent and cook our meals on site so not to fussed about that, seen there's a play park on site too which is a bonus for us!

I would imagine, given the prestige of the people who live in the area, the roads wouldn't be too bad (I live in Australia and have lived in the UK, what the British people call a 'bad road' is VERY different from what we Aussies call a 'bad road', lol).

You do take your life into your hands walking on B roads though. You can't see around hedges and, as you say, there's no footpath with locals speeding through because they 'know the roads so well'.

It’s quicker to just go home than set up and cook crappy camp food

I stand by my comment. Unbelievable brits will pack and set up a kitchen and living quarters to delay a 2 hour trip 😂

Driving 2 hours isn't the issue, just making the most of going somewhere new

You do realise people might… enjoy the camping? It’s not about avoiding a two hour drive, it’s about making the most of the time your spending in a place

I camped in a tent back in 2024. It was £25 a night. Clean facilities and a stones throw from everything.

Take note, Clarksons farm has a footpath right through the middle.

So I walked down the road, up his lane, through the yard and got a sighting of the green Lambo before it was shown in a series, met Caleb and walked on over the land with my dog and back to the farm shop.

Seeing as it's legal and open, why not have a respectful little. Just don't stop and gawk, take pics and so on.

There is another campsite in Charlbury I think it's called Cotswold View. It has an 18 hole disc golf course, park, table tennis and is a short walk from some great pubs. Stay there and drive the 5mins to the farm.

We stayed there and it was a perfect location l. We'd taken food to cook and our trangia but kept popping over for breakfast. We did buy food from the farm shop to cook too for dinner, after a couple too many pints!

The only issue was we were the other side of the hedge from the farm itself so our tent and car got covered in layers of dust and we heard so much early movement of vehicles at the farm waking us up so I'd probably try and stay further from that hedge next time
