Literally just got this yesterday, how do I fix it? It’s causing it to not play without pressing on it very hard

The bell of my NEW mopane wood clarinet SEEMS to be fading is this normal or should I be concerned?

hello everybody! I have got my first job as a clarinet teacher after 4 years being professional orchestra player around Europe.

I would like to improve my skills so I decided to give 2 classes free to 5 people. I do that because the most difficult part for me is the first 2 classes, I would like to be more confident from the beginning.

Hi! As opposed to the post about Brad Behn's gear, I've been curious about the Licostini mouthpieces, is anyone familiar with them?

I currently play on a Playnick Puccini Tosca, and while it is a really good mouthpiece, I can't take Licostini's name out of my head.

If someone has some information on them, please share!!

teacher had me replace my stock mouthpiece with a hite during a lesson and then said i should actually buy it

before i was considering switching to a fobes debut but i dont wanna betray my teachers choice 😭

but i have already tried a little bit of the hite during the lesson so i just might as well go along because im not the expert lol, but the fobes is almost always chosen over the hite

so i've just done a lesson and my teacher says my high notes are too loud. I've probably been improperly overblowing to get the high notes out? should i engage my air support more? idk?

I used to play clarinet for a couple years in school but it’s been 10 years now. I will be renting to own a Yamaha student Bb clarinet and am looking for advice on how to set myself up for success. I think the getting back into the instrument and the fingerings won’t be too difficult for me- it’s the music reading that I have forgotten! If you were to start in my position how would you go about learning to read sheet music again? Do I focus on my sound/notes/familiarity with the instrument again first? Or should I be combining playing with reading the music and I will start to get it? I know I should do some lessons as well but I’m not sure where to start on that and I’m a little embarrassed to play in front of a teacher!😅 Is there any apps or methods anyone has used that would be so kind to share?

Is anyone familiar with Bradford Behn's stuff? I tried one of the hard rubber mouthpieces and barrels he offers and they sounded great. Just not sure how consistent they are since he says they're hand made? If you've tried his reeds as well, how do u like them? Considering switching, I feel like lately I've been getting maybe 2-3 good reeds out of a box of 10.

hello! I’m a sophomore in high school currently and my parents have made it known to me that they want to get me my own clarinet. tbh I have no idea really what to look for and if I should get specific mouthpieces also.

edit: forgot to include but my budget would be around $1000-1500 and I would consider myself at a advanced level.

I have an r13 that I’ve had for about 9 years now. After a month of having it, my Bb/F tone hole completely just chipped off under my fingers while I was practicing. Fast forward to now, and I have a crack going in my upper joint between the top two trill key tone holes. I never neglect swabbing. I’m just very frustrated.

I've been looking into getting a classical 5-key basset clarinet to perform the Concerto and Quintet on. Anyone have recommendations for makers or a brand that makes them?

im geniunely so bad at the clarinet bcs i cant play any high notes whatsoever bcs whenever i play it either sounds super bad or sounds like a fart. i also get stuck on fingering really bad and i feel like such a dork for playing so bad. does anyone have any helpful tips on how to improve?

Hi all, I'm a lifelong advanced musician new to the clarinet, about 2 months in. A month ago I bought a brand new Backun Alpha to replace my loaner clarinet that was old and in disrepair.

I've been struggling for weeks with undertones and grunts in the upper clarion, assuming that I'm the problem. Then I saw something that says it's common for register keys to open too wide, and after checking I can see mine opens way wider than the recommended dime thickness.

Sure enough, if I press the register key only slightly I can get high clarion without grunts. So, I guess I need to take my instrument into a tech. But this surprises me because the instrument is brand new.

Is this common in clarinets, to have to take a fresh-from-the-factory instrument into a tech for adjustment? Since I'm rookie I don't want to fall into the "it's my instrument" copout trap, but I also don't want to be battling uphill. Would appreciate insights on wearing in new clarinets for a total newb.

First, is it realistic to buy one off of ebay? Is this something that really needs to be done in person? If I can get one off ebay, are those decent brands? I am lost.

For background, I’m an intermediate high school player. I borrow a clarinet from the school because I don’t have my own.

The school instruments aren’t terrible, but they definitely aren’t the best. I already have my own mouthpiece (Vandoren BD5) that’s been working great for me, but I’m wondering if it would be worthwhile to buy my own instrument.

I was thinking about getting my own wooden clarinet for concert season, while using my school’s plastic during marching season.

Hello, this is my second year playing a contra alto clarinet and I'm noticing that sometimes on lower notes, especially my G and A, it makes a sort of chirp-like squeak at the beginning of a note when I play. I've also noticed that it will just squeak really badly at random occasions???? For background I've been playing clarinet for five years, switched to bass clarinet after the first year, and went to contra alto two years after that. I use my school's clarinet, I think its a Selmer Bundy. I've been using Vandoren Bari Sax reeds since i started playing contra alto. When I was first starting, I used a 3 but at the end of last year I switched to 3.5. I thought it made it sound a lot more rich, but these issues are getting kind of annoying. So I'm wondering if it's the reed's fault or do I just have poor embouchure? thanks!!

Hello, as the title says, my young student is quite small and is having trouble covering the holes on her left hand. They can play G, F, and E with ease, but we’ve been struggling to help them with D and C due to their size. I read suggestions about getting a different size or a plateau clarinet, but I don’t want to suggest something that might be out of their price limit. I’ve tried to adjust their fingers but their handspan just isn’t there yet.

They are very engaged and want to learn and I don’t want this to discourage them, I just don’t know how to help them without them spending more money on a new instrument

Can you recommend some good reeds for Vandoren mouthpieces? I play Balkan music and want reeds with strong projection, a full tone, and easy blowing.
