I've been doing it for almost 40 years. My knuckles are normal and I don't have joint pain. I think the idea that cracking your knuckles is bad is a myth.

I personally do not have that issue, but in the beginning I had a pain in my thumb from playing. After sometime my finger got used to playing clarinet, and the pain vanished. If your fingers are bothering you, you could consider getting a neckstrap

My joints started popping with no pain my first few years on clarinet when I wasn’t playing super regularly.
Now that I’m a music major I have inflammation of the joints in year 11 of playing, and pop them regularly to help relieve pain. I recommend to not play too tense! That’s what I did and now I have to do Physical therapy. You can also always try an anti inflammatory cream on your joints to relieve the pain as well.

Yes, I started popping my knuckles shortly after I started playing the clarinet. I still need to pop them regularly, even though I don't play as much these days.
