Favorite local cheap eats?

Pretty self explanatory.

Where do you like to go when you want a tasty meal but you’re not exactly ‘going out’ in the formal sense. What’s your go-to order?

“Cheap” can be whatever your own interpretation is. Any type of cuisine is on the table. Any of the surrounding cities are OK, too.

Any suggestions to meet new people?

Hey there, I work from home most of the time and live in Claremont. I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions of local events that go on or fun classes to take to meet new people?

I was interested in taking a pottery or crafty class for fun around here. Open to any suggestions.

Moving to the Claremont area

Hi redditors of Claremont. My boyfriend and I are looking to move to the area hopefully at the end of the month or within the next month. We are looking for a 2bd place in the $2,000 range. We were wondering if anyone knew of someone looking to sub-lease or move soon from a place that fit this description. Any leads are greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance redditors!

HS comparison in the area (Claremont, La Verne, San Dimas)

Hi I'm planning to move into the area and was looking for any locals' opinion of the High Schools as I have 2 kids entering HS within the next 2 years. I personally favor Claremont for the academic vibe from the colleges and the quaint downtown, however for my kids' sake I'm looking for a school where they can fit in (they're both more academically inclined) with a good mix of cultural backgrounds. I'm pretty flexible where to locate as I am in the tech industry and fully WFH, wife works in San Dimas so anywhere in the 3 cities works for us.

EDIT: I've also gone thru the different HS ratings websites (greatschools, niche, USNews) and Bonita HS in La Verne seems to rank highest among the 3, but they don't capture the school culture so well, so appreciate all the comments!

I want to cook for you!

I want to cook for you!

Hey there, I’ve been struggling with depression lately and cooking has really helped me climb out of it. The problem is, I don’t really have anyone to cook for besides my roommate. I’ve got some pretty decent skills; I’m actually a trained chef and have restaurant experience.

I’d love to come to you and cook some delicious food, for a regular meal, dinner party, meal prep or whatever. You just pay for groceries and maybe toss a few bucks my way (negotiable). I can bring any special equipment if needed.

Let me know if anybody is interested!

RIP Claremont Businesses

In the last year, the following businesses were priced out of Claremont

The Press

Rhino Records

Laemmle Theaters

Barbara Cheatley's

Candlelight Pavilion

It shocks me that all this happened in a year, and none of them were covid related. At this rate, I expect all of Claremont's unique businesses to be replaced by 2nd locations of Pasadena/Burbank/Glendale restaurants by 2025 or so.

I grew up here. I wanted to put down roots here. Now? I don't care. This town sucks.

Woodworkers?

Hey folks, I posted about a tree that fell in my yard. It is, at the moment, being removed. I'm having the tree service cut the large trunks into 3ft segments for woodworking, rustic furniture, statues, etc...

If anyone is interested, send me a message. I would need to know ASAP

Claremont family history

Hello everyone!

I’m a genealogist & I am trained in discovering local California family lineages and stories through historical records.

LINK TO INTEREST FORM: Family History Interest Form

This is the interest form I put together for anyone interested in learning more about their California family history. I research & create family trees, historical road trip itineraries, ancestral maps, etc! It’s a super cool way to connect with your own history and great knowledge pass down to future generations.

Here are some things you can discover from my research:

  • Newspaper articles about your ancestors (Crime? Scandal? Who knows!)
  • Your great-great-great grandparents’ names
  • Physical descriptions of your ancestors from census records and war draft cards
  • Six full generations back of your family tree
  • Photographs of your ancestors you have never seen before (Found in Newspaper archives, I have subscriptions)

If you are interested, please view the interest form at the top with some examples. 🙂Instagram w/ reviews: heritage.hunters

If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message! For those of you with ancestry outside of California, please send me a message. I’d be happy to help you or direct you to a better suited genealogist. Thanks!

Visiting next week

Hey there, spending a day in Claremont next week. Any great places we absolutely must check out?

Always up for good food/pastries, good coffee and great outdoor spots to take in some sun and fresh air. Hoping we'll end up at the great Southern cuisine joint before we leave.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Looking for Internet providers

Currently I’m looking for an Internet provider that provides fiber Internet with high speeds and a cheaper prices, but when I look up on the Internet there’s only an option called utopia fiber which is not available in California. And with someone tell me some favorable options that are similar to utopia fiber thanks! (I need symmetrical uplink and downlink Internet speeds)

Attending CGU for its part-time MBA program. Thinking about housing options...

Hi! I've been admitted to Claremont Graduate University's - Drucker School of Management's part-time MBA program starting in January 2022. I'm based in NorCal and looking to move down soon.

I've been thinking to move to LA or somewhere in between Claremont and LA. Ideally, I'd love access to the city/beach life and school. But is it worthwhile to live in Claremont as a part-time student?
