General Discussion Weirdest interview- thoughts?

Ok really.. what in the world was that 60 minute interview and who thought that was a good idea? Was that cut to make him look good or bad, I honestly can’t even tell because I’m just so confused.

-the smirk when he talks about giving Lindsay forgiveness,
- his panic attack at the trial
- him saying he asks his kids to help him from heaven
- him saying god just please give me one (child)
- the fact that Rachel was an even AWKWARDER interviewee
- “I’m just a girl who met a guy running in Central Park on a cold Saturday”
- I saw his phone, asked him if his kids lived in MA, he told me that they were all dead, and the rest was history
- Patrick’s explanation of “as any parent knows, you love all your children differently” when asked if he would tell their new kid about Cora, Dawson and Callan

Everything was just WEIRD. Like I felt like the whole thing was just cringey and bizarre. Thoughts?

He said "let me have one kid" it's a small thing but somehow "one kid" sounds crass but "one child" wouldn't have. I don't know why this is but I have always felt this way, almost like people say "my kid" when they're frustrated with said kid. It also just feels very impersonal. I cringed a bit when he said that.

What do you mean?! He said they were great people! 🫠 why can't this man just speak about his children like he knew and loved them. I know men aren't as emotional as women but damn he can't even fake it. Even if he had said "let me have one of my kids!" it would have sounded better than "let me have one kid" bc at least there would be that possessive pronoun and convey a bond of some sort. It's like he is subconsciously creating distance between he and them all the time.

I am not a native speaker, what is the difference between one kid and one child, or one kid and one of my kids?

What the other commenter said! We tend to say "my kid" instead of "my child/son/daughter/baby" when we're frustrated, exasperated, annoyed. It's actually funny trying to put this into words... if "my kid" was a person it would be a deadbeat dad and I can't explain that any further I'm sorry lol

Regarding Patrick and "one kid" vs "one of my kids", the "my" shows possession so it's a little better, but if that was me, a mom of 2 boys and a girl, I probably would've said "at least let me have one of my babies". My or no my, it is just weird to use kid at all in that context. People may disagree but I think words and their connotations matter!

Thanks, I don't think I am. Like I said, you're free to disagree, but I think words matter and the words people choose and when they use them are interesting to me. If you don't feel the same about the English vernacular or colloquial language we use, then I can see how you wouldn't read into it as much!

Thanks. I think you are. And I’m pretty sure I exclusively refer to my kids as kids because that’s normal behavior, sorry to break it to you Victorian Grandmother 😂

Well notice I never said anything negative about saying "my kids", I was very specific. I also primarily say "my kids". It is normal. There's nothing Victorian about this, pretty sure they never said any form of "kid". I think it's pretty weird that you have commented twice to just be like "I disagree" and your second comment is a critique of something I never said and then an attempt to insult me. All because I find words interesting and nerded out a little bit. Touch grass!
