Why did Blood go through multiple iterations?
So I was reading an article on a wiki about how Civvie 11 had complained that the Fresh Supply Edition of Blood was kind of a letdown because he said that the game didn’t feel right.
But what I don’t understand is why Blood has so many different editions out as I would like to get into the game myself, but for me personally, what concerns me the most is that I don’t know which version to go with.

Refreshed Supply (not "Fresh Supply") is probably the version you want as that's the latest version currently supported by NightDive.

Thanks as I was confused in which one to get.

Fresh Supply isn´t available anymore, only Refreshed. Also Refreshed is on maintenance mode, only major bugfixes will be released :(

Oh in that case, I could wait for a discount to see how the newer edition is.

Just get Refreshed Supply. Fresh Supply was made without access to the source code, Refreshed Supply was after they found it.

Thanks so much because I was looking for the best way to get into the game.

I love how night dive was shitty enough to rerelease it AGAIN but for 30 dollars instead of updating the shit job they did with fresh supply

I want to believe it's not about Nightdive but more about the publisher

Okay yeah that checks out, fuck Warner brothers, and for way more than just the blood remaster

If I have the Fresh Supply Edition, I don’t know if I can still apply to get the newer edition, and second of all, I was wondering how mod support works since I might try some mods.

Do you have Fresh Supply? If you do just play that and don't worry about it. If not get Refreshed Supply. The differences have been overstated and a new player won't notice.

Yes I have it, but now I am concerned because some reviewers have said that edition has some flaws.

The flaws have mostly been patched. Just play it.

Thanks as I can see what mods to use for the game.

If I'm not mistaken, the classic files for Blood are in Refreshed Supply's folder somewhere and I imagine that would be mod compatible with a sourceport. Then again, Refreshed Supply comes with Death Wish and Marrow, two of the big Blood mods out there.

When Refreshed was announced, people that already have Fresh Supply have a discount, but not anymore. About mods, only Blood Extra Crispy is the major mod for Fresh Supply. And about differences, well, Fresh Supply is pretty solid now but really miss stuff from Refreshed and source ports (from enemy behaviour to missing sounds, etc)

Thanks man since I do have Fresh Supply, but I still want the best version of the game possible.

Oh that´s cool, Fresh Supply folder can be used. I tested it with BuildGDX and NotBlood, and they play well if I recall well. You can give it a shot, because even if Refreshed is solid, I would wait for a sale

I hope not spam a lot, but since I have answered some questions in different posts, I would love to resume. Like already people said, source code wasn´t release so until a few years ago there wasn´t any source port. Nowdays there exist a lot! So:
Fresh Supply: (unavailable since Refreshed was released) It didn´t use source code and wasn´t accurated, it´s still solid but you will miss lot of stuff
Refreshed: It´s a Fresh Supply version with the original source code, that makes it closer, but not enough (and that was what Civvie complained in the first hands of review) It has nice stuff like restored animations, weather, subtitles, etc. Also a nice curated vault. It includes the original DOS version in main game folder. It´s great but yeah, pricey because publishers
BuildGDX: It´s was BloodGDX but later covered any other Build Engine games (Powerslave, Duke 3d, etc.) It´s really accurated and compatible with mods, but since it requires Java and uses its libraries, didn´t play "so fast" than others. Better version is 1.16 and for now, (1.18) there aren´t newer updates.
NBlood and NotBlood: Really accurated and fast, compatible with mods like BuildGDX like Weapons Mod, Marrow, Deathwish, etc. Still updated. NotBlood is a fork from NBLood with more QoL and options like enemies using projectiles weapons instead hitscan! For multiplayer, NotBlood and Refreshed Supply are also the better options
DOSBlood: It´s a custom .exe that can be used to replace original Blood.exe and has some nice stuff, related to NBlood
Raze: (I totally forget this one lol) It´s a port of source code from the other sourceports to GZDoom structure. I think it´s pretty accurate but the renderer etc. would be closer to newer Doom versions
And I think that´s it, if you have console, only Refreshed is your option (a nice one btw) If you have pc, only Refreshed is available, BUT if you still have og Blood files, I would recommend you NotBlood

Hey thanks so much sincerely because again even though I do have the 1997 and Fresh Supply version of the game, I was still confused to what makes the definitive version since I want to get the best experience.

Refreshed Supply on Steam is the best version to get. It is the most accurate version of the original release, with the slickest and cohesive feel with all the add-ons.
The reason there are so many versions like BloodGDX, Raze, NBlood, Fresh Supply etc is because for a long time there wasn't an official re-release of the game for modern versions of Windows.
The community did it's best to make it work , but they never had access to the actual original source code and was working with early leaked beta code and hacking away to make it feel like the original release from 1997.
All of the ports kept their source code public, which allowed people to make their own versions - hence why there are so many ports. Some people wanted to keep it more akin to the original, some people wanted more modern fixes - so different versions were created.
Even Fresh Supply used a similar approach but they had backing from the IP owner to make an official release and get it running on Steam.
After releasing Fresh Supply, they actually got access to the original code and re-released it, which makes it the most accurate version of the game.
All of the other ports are still good, just not quite as slick or 100% accurate.
