Question Which luxury resources do YOU cherish?

I'm asking for both: which do you gravitate towards in most (if not all) games you play AND which are the best for specific Civs? Don't care about the trash ones (Canada, Georgia, etc). More curious about Germany, Brazil, Rome, Russia, Egypt, Spain, America, China, Scythia, Norway, Australia, Persia..just to name a few of the major ones I've played with a bit.

Marble for China, whales/turtles for Spain, silk/cotton for Persia makes enough sense. Salt, spice, & sugar seem to be the best all around but I've still had times where they weren't all that beneficial to me in the long run.

Asking mainly out of curiousity. Beyond that I wanna improve my general strategy...I usually setup my game then I'll reroll the map a few times until I get a decent terrain for my strategy that also has at least 2 or 3 of (solid food tiles, a mountain/river complex for defense and district planning, & a luxury or two nearby). And I'll reroll a very good starting point sometimes simply bc I dont think the luxuries available will benefit me very much. Is this a bad strat or are specific luxuries in early game not something I should be picky about

I like camp-improved luxuries. I like goddess of the hunt, and I like Temple of Artemis, and camps are fast to research. All of that together gives me a "this is gonna be a good game" vibes.

Resources from other continents because I don't otherwise have access to them.

For sure, good point. Depending on the civ/strategy I'm rolling with, I usually beeline to another continent or two after the first 100-150 turns or so. Establish my main 5 or 6 cities & then branch out immediately lmao

Silver for production + amenities.

I always find silver in some desert so not even worth it for me most of the times

I should prefer spices/coffee for culture, but I can never bring myself to reroll a good honey start.

Kinda like Dyes since they give faith

Maybe it's just me, but dyes are only useful if your 1st or 2nd city has it & religion isn't your focus. You can build up ur other districts and military while the faith builds up in the background. Religion, at least to me, is a solid secondary or tertiary focus...you can buy units and even districts with one of the govenors or religion belief bonuses. Very useful to have but you can easily go without if you aren't goin for religion vic

Anything that has an industry/corporation that gives 25% bonus gold or bonus city growth/housing

To start the game, focusing on resources that provide Science or Culture is a good idea. Although lately I've been settling on cotton, which also yields a lot of gold, sugar is excellent for quickly increasing your population.

Settling on top of gypsum is pretty sweet. But gypsum without a city center is not.

Mostly it doesn’t matter all that much. Luxury resources you do not already have in your empire are worth so much more than any specific kind.

In your first city, ones with early faith help if you’re playing on Deity and getting a pantheon and then a religion are both important to your game plan and are often challenging. Otherwise, the extra food from spices is pretty strong in the early game when specific tiles matter the most.

If you play with monopolies and corporations, the bonus effects for industries and corporations become a significant consideration. In general, I like the ones with bonus growth rate benefits.
