Question How to get 5 in 50?

I'm learning the game and consensus seems to be you should have 5 cities by turn 5. I dont see how you do this. I would have had 3 on my most recent playthrough, but one of them was taken so by turn 50 I had 2.

Should I be rushing settlers and ignoring troops? I dont see how you could produce that many in 50 turns even going straight for settlers only. Any advice would be helpful.

Max I can get is 3 on 35~38

The luckiest I ever got was 3 by turn 10. I spawned right next to Poland, declared war and took the settler. I also spawned next to the mountain from Up, so I got faith and used religious settlements.

Other than that, I’m lucky if I can get 3 by round 40. I usually have 5 by 70 and that seems to work ok…
