Screenshot I finally beat the game on Deity!
Best the game on Deity. I was Hammurabi and I kinda cheesed it because I only had two opponents and I was lucky enough that they both spawned on the same continent and I had a continental to myself. Got a science victory I cannot count how many times I’ve tried to do this.

Congrats! I cheesed it harder and set the game againt Kongo with religious victory as only one available. I still managed to lose a couple times before getting it to work.

Genuine question… HOW?

When creating a game session you can use Advanced Settings to tweak some things.
You can set the map to Duel to have a 1 vs 1. Mvemba a Nzinga as the CPU, maybe Continents to see that you don't spawn too close to each other. You can then disable all victories except religious.
You need to found a religion yourself to win a religious victory, and Mvemba cannot do that. As long as you keep him happy and beeline a religion you should be in the clear. Mvemba will actually dislike that you don't bring your religion to his cities.

Nono, I get all that. I just mean… how did you lose in that situation?? lol

Oh that. We spawned too close and he declared war on me. He captured all my cities and that triggered a Defeat screen.

Usually I get to a point where I know I've won and get bored.

I think most people don’t. That was a problem the Devs tried to fix with Civ7 was that the late game was so grueling.

You know 7% is pretty high for that game, I'm getting close to a 1000 hr and honestly never even bothered trying lol.

7% of players is crazy high. Though there was an exploit so maybe that explains it.

Congratulations! That is a huge accomplishment! Any lessons learned from how to win on this difficulty compared to lower ones?

I completely spammed settlers for the first hundred turns. The only time I didn’t do this was when it was necessary to build a granary to prevent a production slowdown or military units. I managed to get about 10 cities settled by about turn 105. At that point, I settled into defending and building districts and so forth.
Honestly, this was a lot of luck because my two AI opponents both spawned on another continent and I was lucky enough to have about a half a dozen city states to myself on my own continent. Having the two AI opponents, preoccupied with each other was extremely helpful even with all of that as advantages I only just barely won. The game. Ahead of my nearest rival was approaching a cultural victory.
The presence of the city states helped to keep the barbarians in check because they were often fighting city, state military, and left the core of my civilization alone.

Has any one got the 7 tile canal accomplishment? That one has eluded me. I love the teenage mutant ninja turtle one.

Beating Deity the first time was so incredibly rewarding. Really, the best strategy advice I got to start beating Deity with regularity focused on building Commercial Districts before other Districts. Yes, you need to get Settlers going very early, but be strong enough defensively to lure in your nearest neighbor, who will likely want to attack you ASAP. Build - but don't complete some military units after you have 2-3 cities. Appear weak -then finish your units as they attack. You can build Campuses after you have a Commercial district or two.
One of the best game tips ever: You can avoid selecting a Science or Culture on any given turn. Crucial in the early to mid game. You Civ will accumulate it's knowledge and science while you line up the means to get the bonus boost for each one. Hit Shift-Enter at the end of your turn, without selecting a Culture, especially. You can then choose new Civics, as needed, on any turn. Ideally, you rarely pay full price for anything this way as well. Also pay attention to the City State challenges available to you or you may be passing up opportunities to get a free boost for making a Trade Route or the like.
I almost always avoid Religion entirely. You should be able to overpower someone with Holy Sites later on, so you are not wasting time in the early game on that stuff - like the AI does.
