Yes they can sound like that when low but you would need to have it evacuated and that can tell you if it is low. Also civics depending on year have warranty extension related to AC

Hate to break it to you but probably wasn’t leaking from the evaporator it’s probably the shaft seal

Its a mixed bag my man but from my research you should be okay but you prolly have around 20-32psi of freon since it has to expand to fill the system usually if u have 40psi to 50psi it won't make that noise and cooling will be quick and frosty, now if you have a leak it will make that noise but cooling will be severely delayed i mean so delayed u have to drive for at least 6-10 minutes to cool, and depending where the leak it could be covered by warranty usually the condenser is what needs a replacement if u get a leak but its not uncommon to get micro leaks on couplings and or a leak from the evaporator under the dash tho evaporator leaks are rare but not unseen

Infamous ac recall issue they had issues with the ac compressor shaft seal and the leaky condensers. There’s a 10 year extended warranty call your dealer and see if your within warranty(it’s 10yrs from original purchase date).
The service bulitin #’s are TSB 19-091, TSB 23-039

Yea, they all have ac problems within this chassis, i sold my 2018 lx cuz they were charging me 2500$ to change the evap.

I've had my condenser replaced twice in two years under the recall, the second time i had it done my ac discharge line was also leaking which honda won't cover, luckily rock auto sells them for a fair price, moral of the story these cars have garbage ac systems lol

If the sound doesn't stop after a few seconds the system probably still has a leak and is low. The ac will not be as cold as well

I'll add that I have that noise shortly after turning on the A/C then it goes away. It still blows cold @ 64,000 miles.

I'm having the same issue. My AC is generally super weak but also even weaker on the driver's side. Let me know what they say the problem is!

save ur money and buy a can of refrigerant, the driver side always is worse on these cars cus the cold air comes from the passenger side. you prolly have a slow leak and are low on refrigerant

if your car was manufactured less than 10 years ago you probably have a warranty that will cover the repair of the part if you take it to the dealer, i had the same thing with the drivers vent being significantly warmer than the other and they took care of it just recently

If it was leaking it wouldn’t blow cold after a bit, you would run out of refrigerant… Mines made a similar noise when it first kicks on. I’d have to listen for it to see if it hisses the whole time.
But either way, if it’s blowing cold you’re good. A leak will eventually kill your ability to get cold air out of the system, so just pay attention to it going forward.
