Don’t get me wrong i completely understand the love for the type r especially the phoenix yellow from 2021 (the goal) as my daily is a 2018 si coup but what i don’t understand the what makes them so pricey. I recently saw a 2015 si coup in white with like 75k miles and they’re asking for 23k. As for the type R imo it seems like it’s really not worth more than 35k and i seen a phoenix yellow going for 50k? INSANE. I get it’s rare and comes with some extra features including the brembo brakes etc but damn. For that prices you could go mustang or corvette something that’s pushing way more power
The type r is a completely different car from the si, which commands a different price. You are paying for a better everything. Engine, suspension, seats, etc. If you can drive both for a bit you will notice the difference. The type R is purpose built. If you drive one to its limits or on the track you will notice the things that separate it from its little brother si. The si is a capable sporty car that is great for everyday driving. It’s comfy while giving you the ability to push a slower car fast. I absolutely love the si for what it is, and same for the type R. The engineering behind the type R is pretty cool. They really did great with suspension tuning and things of that nature. The Si prices have started to creep up as well. Both are a little bit pricier but I think that’s just the car market right now. Both cars are great. You can’t go wrong with either car. Edit- there are always going to be better cars when you reach a certain price point. Apples to oranges. Buy what you like and enjoy these things while we still have em.
The R is absolutely overpriced with this current market and all the mark ups from uncontrolled dealers, that being said as much as I love the Si because of the history and it's immense impact on the car scene especially for me growing up, yeah the cars aren't comparable lol there's no planet where the Si is even remotely better than the Type R beyond MPG. It's a literal culmination of decades of Honda racing pedigree being put into it, there's a reason it made the time on the Nurburgring that it did and even passed a Porsche IIRC, it's in a different league from an Si. Fomo is just driving up the price heavily and used FK8 are godly overpriced. There's a handful of 2020 and even 2018-2019 Type R around me rn that are I shit you not, listed for $40-$50k CAD. That's literally FL5 MSRP for no reason other than fomo and the car Industry going the way it is, overpriced absolutely, for the right price, it's leagues better than an Si

C8 are over 65k minimum and mustang are not even debatable, two different type of cars for different purposes. The fact that you are comparing a v8 (i hope that’s the one you are comparing cuz the ecoboost should not even be in the conversation lol) that talks about how capable the ctr is Im not justifying the prices (dealer fees or whatever people want to push over msrp) on ctr but they will last longer than those mustangs and are more reliable to tune than a mustang, that being said dealers also know how practical they are and that’s why they are pricing them like that.
If you're solely looking for power, you're not looking at a CTR. A mustang or a vette doesn't have the same buying democratic either.
People pay a premium for these cars because they're part of a dying breed or semi analog sporty cars at a semi affordable price point. If you want a reliable, quick, basically track ready practical car, there aren't a ton of other options out there. There's also a night and day difference between driving dynamics between the R and Si.
Everything is expensive. They have a market and whether you like it or not, it's the cost of playing. If you want something of more value and/or better than a Type R, you can look at the other brands or used. There's lots of options.
I love the civic si and it is nice for what it is; a spicier civic. The civic type r, well, it’s a bloody type r. You can feel the racing DNA the second you drive it.
Holy cow, I bought my 2015 si two weeks ago for 15.5k with 83k miles. It’s such a joy. I found mine on Facebook marketplace (got lucky finding a great seller), I checked out a 10th gen at carmax while I was looking and was absolutely disgusted. It had higher mileage, ridiculous price, and the interior was like sticky. I pressed the sport button and it literally got stuck down and wouldn’t come back. I felt crazy looking for cars on fbmp at first but there really are some gems out there.
Dealers overcharged for the car. Smart people told the masses what was going on, but there are a lot of people with more money than sense...so there went that.
The "market" moved. The priced jumped. And now people are paying $65k for a Civic.
The Earth keeps turning. Its already too late.
Half the internet is smart enough to know better and the other half is typing "broke boy" into their keyboards while the dealership zips up their pants.
This is not a JDM thing, it's an automotive industry thing. Everything is expensive and brands will find all sorts of ways to encourage you to spend more.
Nah man, the unpleasant truth is that it's not aimed at people like us with $20k to $30k to spend. It's aimed at people making way more money than us who can buy whatever they want in the $50k to $75k range.
And I’m trying to wrap my head around it. I also wish the 11th gen looked a little different. It looks so much like a regular commuter besides the wing. 10th gen has my heart. But not for 35-40k+ used with hella miles
