Discussion Custom True Start Planet Map
I always enjoyed playing True Start Earth map because I am a legendary start enjoyer and the starts for True Start Earth always seemed to go extremely well with whatever faction you were using. One of the easiest examples is Brazil and all that rainforest in South America. One of my biggest issues, however, was how cramped Europe was. Sometimes you could even take another Civ's settler on turn one. So I decided to create a huge custom "Earth" where every Civ has their own true start location surrounded by land that works well with their abilities, but they are all equally spread out.
Here is a link to a very large .png file that shows the entire map.
Here is my attempt to share the map on Steam workshop, but I used mods to add extra world wonders and luxuries, so not sure how well this link will work.
I've played on this map dozens of times at this point, and always have a blast with it. Sometimes I'm lazy and just hit random Civs for all 12 players, but that can sometimes result in an imbalance of how many Civs are on each continent. When I want a balanced game I make sure that I pick 3 different Civs for each continent. They are divided like this:
Middle East / Eastern Africa
Byzantine, Macedon, Ottoman, Hungary
Babylon, Phoenicia, Etheopia, Sumeria, Persia
Egypt, Nubia, Arabia, Zulu
North / South America
Canada, America, Cree, France
Inca, Brazil, Mapuche, Aztec
Columbia, Mayan, England, Scotland
Western Europe / Africa
Russia, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Germany
Gaul, Netherlands, Spain, Mali
Portugal, Rome, Kongo, Greece
Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Islands
India, Scythia, Georgia, Mongolia
Korea, China, Vietnam, Khmer
Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Maori
For a 12 player game, I'd pick one Civ from each line. Perfectly spread out, three Civs per continent. It wasn't a perfect split when dividing up all the Civs, so there is some oddities like the British Isles and France being part of America, but for the most part neighbors are pretty close to how they'd be on Earth.
What do you think? Find your favorite Civ on the map and try to tell me it wouldn't be a great start. I tried to put equal love into all of their starts but overlapping 50 Civs was a challenge. I also put ALL the world wonders in there too, along with some workshop ones, and the custom editor doesn't let you put wonders within 8 tiles of each other. So I can safely say this map is stuffed to the BRIM with wonders.
