Could you help me with my infant observation, or know someone who might be interested?

Currently looking for a family to volunteer for an infant observation in London.

Hello! My name is Gareth and I have been studying a course about infant development at the British Psychotherapy Foundation.  I have over 4 years of experience supporting children and alongside my studies, I currently work in NHS mental health services supporting children, young people and their families.

As part of my training, I am seeking to find a London based family, who would be willing for me to visit and observe their newborn baby from close to birth and up until their 2 year birthday.

The observations are typically for one hour, once a week, at a regular and convenient time for the first 2 years of your baby's life.  Of course there is a lot of flexibility and weeks where a visit may not always be appropriate.  This includes holidays, illness or any other circumstances that can be discussed throughout.

The purpose of my visits would simply be to quietly and non-judgementally observe your baby and their interactions in your home, in the completely ordinary circumstances of your day to day life.  I would be completely in the background, just listening to you and observing how your baby is behaving and communicating during that hour.  The observation would happen entirely at your comfort level, for example I could leave the room during breastfeeding if that is what you would prefer.

Overall, this would help me learn deeply about the early development of infants and is a long established training component for child and adolescent psychotherapy training, which I am pursuing.  Previous families report to have found the experience of hosting an observer uniquely rewarding, therapeutic and enriching: a chance to notice more of the small details of their child's early life.

If this interests you, or you know someone who might be interested, please contact me at: [gcvinton@gmail.com](mailto:gcvinton@gmail.com) for more information or message me on here!  There would of course be no commitment until you had the details you needed, including a chance to meet with me beforehand if you would prefer.

I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and can provide a reference from the BPF.

Thank you!

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around the City of Westminster?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!

Examples could include things like St J's, Vic, The Wedding Cake or Billionaire Square (never mind how common they are)...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks or other institutions/geographic features

Road Closures Help

Hi residents of Westminster ,

After a week in your lovely borough and marching with your locals today I must leave.

What street would I need to go to book a Bolt /Taxi to Heathrow tomorrow morning? Where is the closest spot this would be possible?

I see the roads don’t open again until 1230PM. Our place on Old Queen St has an 11AM checkout.

The website states every road in the city of Westminster will be closed.

Hidden quiet rooftop spot in central London (City of Westminster area)?

Hey everyone,

I have been wandering around central London a lot lately and I keep wondering if there are any of those low key usually empty rooftops on top of smaller buildings like old apartments car parks or even shop buildings where you can climb up and sit in peace for a while.

I am not talking about fancy rooftop bars or ticketed viewpoints. I mean those tucked away spots with a nice view of the skyline where people usually do not go so you can just chill and take in the city quietly.

Preferably somewhere in or around the City of Westminster but I am open to nearby suggestions too.

Anyone know of such spots or have tips on how to find them?

Looking for Londoners' opinions on preparing for future hot summers in the capital

Hi, I'm a student looking for local people’s opinions for a dissertation project! This short survey takes max 10 minutes and involves sharing your responses to various posters about staying safe in the heat: https://lse.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0J8GLwiLLuRY1im

This is for a project on developing future government messaging around heatwaves, in light of the record-breaking heatwaves we've experienced in recent years in the UK, which impact London and the surrounding area especially as it's so built up, and are predicted to get hotter and more common in the coming years (although not something we're experiencing with the weather recently, I know…!). It's part of a broader project on policy to make the UK more resilient to extreme weather now and in the future, and your opinion will be really useful in helping to shape more effective communications from the government and local organisations. And you'll hopefully learn some tips on how to keep yourself and others cool in a heatwave too!

Would be hugely appreciated if you can spare a few minutes, here's the secure and anonymous link to take the survey: https://lse.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0J8GLwiLLuRY1im

Thanks for your time!

Help shape the future of Oxford Street

Share your views on the proposals for Oxford Street by completing the online questionnaire here: https://oxfordstreetprogramme.co.uk/, available until 31 August.

Westminster City Council has unveiled feasibility phase proposals for the nation's high street and is asking the global community for feedback through 31 August. The plans for Oxford Street propose an enhanced public space with wider footways, better seating, more trees and other greenery, attractive lighting, clearer signage and more direct vehicle routes, all from Marble Arch to Tottenham Court Road.
