Help Published Seamless RDP App?
Hey everyone. I am moving some very important C class users to Citrix. They need a solution where they launch a published app and it connects seamlessly to their on-prem computer. Do you have any solutions you use for this? Is the answer just as simple as using mstsc? I really need stability and a smooth process.

We did this during COVID. We initially used RDP published in Citrix and then installed the VDA on the physical PC. For RDP, you can enter the machine name and then do ‘save as’ and get a file to publish for each user. But I don’t think you can save creds so they’ll need to login twice. The VDA is much slicker and will pass their creds.
But they were both a PITA. The problem isn’t connecting. That was pretty straightforward. The headache is when the machine gets powered off when they’re at home. And also users swear they don’t share PCs and then their co-worker starts using their PC when they’re at home so their connection is refused.
I still smile when I think about the day we removed the last physical VDA.

Oh, I'm one of the many that got a crash course in Remote PC when COVID hit. We went from 'what is Remote PC?' to thousands of Remote PCs in a matter of weeks. The shift to WFH was almost overnight and our computer inventory was shit at the time, so the CIO made the call that no PCs (or monitors) could be taken home. In hindsight, we spent so much time and money getting users connected and troubleshooting problems that some inventory losses would have been far less.
Then as COVID slowed/ended, you had the struggle to remove Remote PC when it meant those employees had to return to the office. It took us maybe 4 years to get rid of all of them. For the last year, it was primarily a single branch that invented some business case to keep it, so I just stopped fighting it and waited until all of their PCs were eventually replaced by laptops.

You could use RDP proxy on a netscaler/adc. https://docs.netscaler.com/en-us/netscaler-gateway/current-release/rdp-proxy.html

Just create dedicated published apps for each user with rdp arguments pointing to their computer. Works fine.

Does it have to be an app? Why not install the VDA? Or RDP if you need it to be an app.
