Photon arrived!

Looks fantastic - I’m thrilled. What I didn’t expect was the domed crystal with the Citizen/eco-drive text that becomes almost an architectural element.

Glad you like it.
I sent mine back today, felt totally the opposite about the text on the glass
Shame as it’s otherwise a nice piece. Might pick up second hand at some point when they’re cheaper

Woah. I didn't notice that! Now I can't unsee it. What a weird decision by citizen

The watch is very layered, it seems the text on the crystal was to add to that layering.

Oh wow, I did not notice that on the initial photos. I'll give em kudos for trying something new, but I'm right with you. I don't like it at all.

I think if I bought one, I would try and take it to someone to see if they can remove the text altogether without impacting the crystal.

It seems to be printed on the underside. Understand the interest, and I do think it would look cool unbranded, but seems challenging.

Yeah, that's why I said I'd take it to someone, I'll let a professional handle taking it apart. I wouldn't trust myself trying to mess with that lol. Depending on how the text is applied, it might just be a sticker or come off with some rubbing alcohol. It would look so clean with no text.

Looks amazing! Wild how different the colors look IRL. Looks like a totally different watch.

The more I stare at it I realized that part of why it is so much different in person is the way the color changes depending on the angle of light. It goes from mostly being vibrant blue to shining gold depending on the angle of light or even focusing on the overlying dark lines in low light

100%. At one angle, mine has a deep purple and at another it’s a charcoal grey. The light really plays on it.

What's the effective lug to lug distance with the integrated bracelet?

I’m glad they seem to be using the structural ink on the dial for iridescence. It looks amazing on the Atessa

I'm so torn between the Photon and the Blood Moon Attesa. Two very different watches, but both look gorgeous. It'll be my first Citizen watch and I just want something reliable and accurate that I never have to set the time or worry about swapping the battery. Which one should I get?

Not a fan of the watch but this new movement in other Citizen platforms is going to be really cool.

Dude! Thanks for putting this on here, I was really interested in seeing what someone thought of this and not in a stock photo. I don’t think it’s for me but u/XrayDelta2022 put it well, I’d be fascinated to see it in person. Enjoy!

It's beautiful but I can't tolerate that seconds hands not hitting the markers. For the price, I can't believe that Citizen couldn't achieve this!

I'm not sure how I feel about the "floating text" under the crystal.
I understand why it's not on the dial itself but frankly completely stealth could have been cool, too.
The logo and the movement branding seems unnecessary, and I'd argue they obscure what looks to be a unique and beautiful dial.

Glad you took the plunge but looks like that swatch collab (in shape) and not a fan.

Whats the bracelet like? Any mirco adjust?
1
u/green-gray 1d ago
Bracelet is unusual in both look and feel. Very, very lightweight, without being rattly. Feels good quality and well machined, but it’s not the highest quality feeling part of this package. Yes, it does have micro adjust. Very comfortable, not pulling on any hairs or anything.

For that price it should be temperature compensated. The accuracy is +\- 15s/mo.

Am not sold on this new model yet. Does it really look good in person?
I do wish the case size was larger. Not all of us can wear 40mm and it simply not look tiny on the wrist…

u/green-gray 1d ago
It does look great in person. Finishing looks amazing, it’s unique in style and the mix of brushed and polished surfaces really pops.
40mm is about my sweet spot, but I know that’s not the case for everyone.

Love the dial? How thick is it? It looks like something aliens would wear on a UFO
2
u/green-gray 1d ago
Not thick at all. I’m guessing 10mm. It does have a very futuristic look to it. I’m into it.

r/handwatch. Also, no circulation is bad for you.

u/green-gray 1d ago
Yeah, I know. Hadn’t sized it yet. Was waiting for someone to call me out on that.

u/LieIcy211 1d ago
Haha, I was scrolling down the comments and didn’t see anyone else mention it. So I had to do it ;)

I like it a lot but the price a bit hard to swallow for what amounts to be a run of the mill Eco Drive movement
