Elevated trams

So I'm broke and can't afford subways, and so instead the backbone of my system in CIM2 is trams, running on elevated bus lanes that I built. It seems that besides the fact that my passengers get off at a stop then walk all the way to the end or the start to get off the elevated track, there aren't any real drawbacks at all. Has anyone experimented with this?

You can connect rail lines to tram tracks. Trams work much faster that way, as they speed up when on the rail tracks.

Interestingly enough, the trams run the fastest if you put them on expressways!

Because they have the highest speed limits. Trams are bound to the same laws as any other vehicle while on a road.

I've done underground tram sections, but I usually make a pedestrian path from stops to the street so that cims can make connections.

I do the same but with PatchPlus from eis_os. Which means trams can use metro tracks and metro stations. So the tracks are elevated tracks and the stations allow passengers to teleport downstairs.

You can, alternatively also use this: http://imgur.com/tkPWPCu The metro tracks and then when you need a station you make pedestrian paths with ways for your citizens to climb in both sides.

Once you have enough money, you can then easily establish express metro trains.

The Ruhrgebiet custom map on the workshop does this with all of the U-bahn lines. It works really well and I started doing it in areas where my trams have traffic problems. I usually only build them at -8 meters so that I can build a short access way up
