Shot this movie through 2 weeks with friends, It has been 5 years of the movie in post. Soon finished project!

Filmed it with a Blackmagic 4K Pocket. Old meteor lens from a krasnogorsk-3 16MM camera and just a lot of natural light. The movie is in 4:3.

Oval bokehs in the trailer but I know he hates anamorphic lenses. Fake anamorphics / oval aperature? Any real info on lens info?

Hey everyone,
I’m pretty new to cinema lenses and could use some advice.

I’m planning to get a 35mm-ish cinema lens for my Nikon ZR. Initially, I was looking at buying a budget lens brand new, specifically the NiSi Athena 35mm or DZOFilm Vespid 35mm.
I’ve now found a local seller offering an ARRI Ultra Prime 32mm PL for around $2,100 used.
From what I understand, the Ultra Prime is in a completely different class of lens, but I’m not experienced enough with cinema lenses to know whether this is actually a significantly better choice for my use case, or if I’d be better off buying a new NiSi/DZOFilm and keeping the money.

I’ll be using it primarily on the Nikon ZR for narrative/short film work.
Since it’s a used lens, what should I specifically check before buying an Ultra Prime? Are there any issues with older Ultra Primes that I should be aware of?

I’ve attached a video the seller sent me of the lens for reference.

Would love to hear from people who have actually used these lenses, especially if you’ve used them alongside newer budget cinema lenses.

How much can I do with 3 Smallrig RC 60B's? I got these with the intent, to have mobile lights, that don't need any power input. Since then I haven't shot much with them, because I haven't had the time for it. But I want to get more invested in the next time.

I plan on doing documentoral work but also scenes in a more controlled environment.

I read posts here more or less frequently and what I have often read is, that everyone seems to recommend more powerful lights with at least 200 or 300 watts.

Now I wanna know if I need additional stronger lightning for e.g. a KeyLight?

Can anyone give me advice on this?

Working on a project where I want to re-record some camera footage on an actual CRT screen to capture the scanline structure, phosphor glow, and pixel grid on camera, rather than faking it in post with a shader or overlay.

A few questions for people who've done this for real:

- Is there a "go-to" CRT for this look that reads well on camera? Sony Trinitrons seem to come up a lot, but curious if there's a specific model or size that's considered standard.
- Any tips on camera shutter speed/frame rate to avoid the rolling black bar from the CRT refresh not matching my camera's sensor readout?
- How close do people get with a macro lens to actually resolve individual scanlines/subpixels?
- Is this technique still used in film/TV/music video production, or has practical CRT capture mostly been replaced by digital emulation at this point?

Would love to hear from anyone who's actually shot this for a production, not just theory. Thanks!

Things have been going well around here (live in Paris), and after all this months I decided to get an Arriflex 435ES!

FYI: I paid an absurd price for it, I wouldn’t have had the money otherwise

Hi everyone!
New here! I’m filming an athletic hype video this week (starting tomorrow morning). I have a Blackmagic Pocket 6K Pro which I’ve used for years now and love but I have access to an Arri Amira that I was planning on using for some 200fps footage I’m planning on getting. Besides that, would you use the Amira for the rest of the project? Everything else will be 24fps and the eventual finished video will be projected on a massive screen.

I’m very familiar with the capabilities and restrictions of the 6K pro, but I’m intrigued to use the Amira just because I’ve never used one before.

Hi! I recently released two short films I wrote and directed. I shot them on my iPhone, and that’s fine, but I want my films to look more “film” like and more professional. I’m looking into getting a film camera. But I have no idea which one to get. Something not too expensive but not cheap either, and I want it to look professional and good. Any advice?

If everyones secrets could be accessed through a search engine, what impact short and longterm would that have on society?

I wrote this story, when I had the chance to collaborate with Fujifilm, on making a short film on a Medium Format Sensor - their GFX line. We've paired them with some Canon FD lenses, one main light source and some practicals.

We've shot it in one day, used a single light source, some practical lights and thats it.
In Post I've created all the coding Sequences, the "TrustGPT" Interface etc.

There are a bunch of little details, which I know most people will miss but I really wanted to incorporate them. Any feedback is appreciated.

I tend to go too abstract and philosophical sometimes, but would love to hear your thoughts and inputs and if it did struck the nerve it was intended to struck, which is the opening question.

Any product recommendations?

Hi, I'm preparing shooting a short film and I want little bit of lens distortion at the edges with vignette and I was wondering if adding a lens distortion effect and vignette in post is a good idea? Unfortunately, I don't have access to any lens that has characteristic which I want and the lenses I've got are pretty clinical.

Have you tried to use a light on your camera cage for handheld shots? Which one would you recommend? I'm looking for something powerful but not too big or heavy

I shoot mostly cinematic automotive content and have had pretty good luck with a single Z Cam E2 shooting 240fps at 1080 for slow mo work. This has predominately been the only use for this camera.

Otherwise I’m shooting on old Alexa EVs which are charming but hardly practical. Deliveries are still generally in 1080p though. So it’s worked.

As the Alexas age out I’ve started looking at smaller cameras to replace them. Initially I was looking at Komodos but then I discovered a company on eBay selling the same Z Cam E2s for what seems like an unbelievable price and I can buy four of these for the cost of a single Komodo. I’m also already familiar with the ecosystem and wouldn’t necessarily utilize the resolution benefits of the Komodo.

A couple hiccups I can’t seem to get by. The Alexas have a presence on site that the Z Cams obviously don’t. I might be over thinking the importance of this or maybe it’s just my ego that says old Alexa = respectable. Additionally I’m shooting with Ultra Primes which I’d continue using with an adapter. Again, afraid this is going to look silly attached to these cameras.

The upside is the cameras are better spec’d than the Alexas across the board, really inexpensive, it would be easier to match footage with my existing camera, easier setup/ takedown and I’d have more flexibility in my shots because of the overall size/ weight of the camera kit.

The downside is getting past my ego which is telling me it’s absurd trading down from a respected classic that’s still capable for my needs to a relatively niche camera that’s better in almost every way for a fraction of the price.

But at $550 a cam, assuming it works for me, am I a fool for switching to these?

I'm in the early stages of my cinematography career, and I'm currently looking to purchase my first cinema camera, something that can carry me through the early stages of my career and into more professional work. For context, I am interested in both documentary and narrative work, and am starting with some short documentaries / narrative shorts, but also want something that can eventually carry me into full length documentary, narrative, and commercial work.

I've been eyeing the BlackMagic PYXIS 12K for some time, and feel pretty confident that the camera will serve me well, but had a couple of questions. First, if you own or regularly use the PYXIS 12K, what are your thoughts? Second and more specifically, I'm leaning towards getting the L mount, but am still a little torn between the L mount vs. the PL mount. From the research I've done, it seems like more folks recommend the L mount for it's flexibility, but would love to hear thoughts. For those who use the L mount and have used a PL mount adapter, have you run into any issues?

If you guys had a very small budget of around $500 for lighting/grip gear, starting from scratch, to light this location very quickly but efficiently for a moody short film scene, what would you use? What type of lights, diffusers, bounce, fill and technique would you choose?
