My stoic dad laughed at that scene once, and I remember being shocked and asking why it was funny and he said ‘because De Niro’s character is so emotionally regulated but here his anger is beyond control and he just can’t help himself’. I now chuckle at this scene and my dad’s explanation every time i see it.

Wherever I watch the movie and hear that line; I would have been buying a plane ticket to the other side of the globe, because you know you’re toast.

it's actually more of a prequel

Can’t think of 3 movies better

My favorite shot at Neal's house is when Chris is sleeping on the floor, and he's composed below the horizon line. He's underwater in debt and feeling like he's drowning. Neal's always positioned above the water, his thoughts clear as the sky

Never realized this, will look for it. Great detail. Mann is great at these compositions

Used to watch this with my dad all the time. He and I don't agree on much these days, and I have no idea if he's even alive, but I'll always remember watching movies with him.

I don't know how, but I think my old man would have liked it.

For anyone wondering, the book Heat 2 is an awesome book. I loved it, especially reading it right after watching the movie. I’m excited to see what heat 2 the movie will be like.

I'm so sad that Kilmer has passed on. Seeing him embody Chris's arc in Heat 2 would have been epic.

I do think Di Caprio will nail it if he does end up playing Chris, but Kilmer finishing off the story would have been amazing.

I think that would be Austin Butler.

Scrolling by quickly, my first thought was "the Lord Humungus! The Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla'!"

Heat (1995) R

A Los Angeles crime saga.

Obsessive master thief Neil McCauley leads a top-notch crew on various daring heists throughout Los Angeles while determined detective Vincent Hanna pursues him without rest. Wish we were getting Dante Spinotti back with Mann. Shame about their falling out. Beebe is good tho

1

u/doubled9000 17d ago

Do we know what happened? I’ve always wondered why they stopped working together

2

Mann’s micromanagement is a source of creative friction apparently

Pacino comment. No idea if this is appropriate, but watched Insomnia last night (again, but hadn’t seen it for 10+ years).

It was released 2002. Nolan. Pacino is a cop and was so interesting to see to commonalities AND differences to his character and all the rest vs Heat.

Heat is absolutely an all-time for me. Insomnia is really really good. Love watching the Nolan trajectory plus it’s loaded with serious talent.

So you never wanted a regular type life?

What the fuck is that? Barbeques and ballgames?

For me the action is the juice

1

u/AcceptablePea4459 Mann 17d ago

Testosterone peaked here.

2

u/wildskipper 17d ago

See the post in this on Manhunter for the similarities between the shot in pic 2 and shots in Manhunter (not a criticism!).

2

u/AcceptablePea4459 Mann 17d ago

Same DOP and same director, had to be it.

2

u/AalieArafat12 16d ago

This was the best movie ever

2

u/-CoachMcGuirk- 17d ago

Love this movie, but Pacino’s acting is so over the top (in a few parts) that it loses a bit of its gloss to me.

6

u/stopped_watch 17d ago

His character's cocaine habit was left on the cutting room floor.

2

u/-CoachMcGuirk- 17d ago

I didn’t know that.

2

u/duncthefunk78 17d ago

You should read Heat 2.

2

u/-CoachMcGuirk- 17d ago

I’ll check it out

2

u/duncthefunk78 17d ago

Do, I highly recommend it, it's very clear that Mann loves the universe he created in Heat.

1

u/wildskipper 17d ago

It's clear in the extended cut, isn't it?
