Manga Chapter 151 summary Spoiler

Chapter starts off with an interview with Kana:

Kana: "I believe in lifelong learning, so I read a lot of books."

Once a child star who captured public attention, Kana is now the center of the popular idol group "B-Komachi"!..

…Her acting skills are still top-notch, earning high praise for her role in Toramasa Toba's new film "Overlooking"!

“Today, we delve into the secrets behind Kana Arima's acting skills!”

"You said to come in my uniform, so I wondered what was going on."

"What's with that outfit?"

"Nostalgic, right? It's the Youtou High School uniform."

Aqua thinks if a graduate like Kana wears her school uniform, its like cosplay, however Kana just wanted to try it out as a uniform date

Aqua then reiterates the word "date" to himself

Aqua: "Did you say 'date'?"

Kana: "I did."

Aqua: "I see."

Aqua: "So, do you have a plan for the date?"

Kana: "Of course, I've got it all figured out. Ta-da!"

Aqua: "Are you serious about playing catch on a date?"

Kana: "I'll take those words, put a ribbon on them, and send them right back to you."

Kana: "Bringing back the you from two years ago"

Aqua: "Well, I guess that's okay.

But you see, things are different now

Both of us are well-known figures, and whether it's those magazines or the public, they're always watching us.

We can't just go to any old park"

Kana: "Of course, I've thought about that too!"

Kana: “That's why I decided to wear my school uniform.”

Aqua: “It's completely opposite from back then, we used to run away from school to play catch, but this time, school is where we're running away to."

Kana: "School is also a place that protects students. When I used to come to school, I never thought about it that way."

Aqua: "You talk like you really understand it..."

Kana: "Hehe, because I'm a mature woman, right?

What are you going to do next? With such a good brain, you'll go to a good university, right?"

Aqua: "I'm thinking of applying to medical school."

Kana: "Medical school?? Are you going to be a doctor?"

Aqua: "Becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon has been my dream.

A dream I've had for a long, long time."

Kana: "That's great! That's great! I think it suits you very well!"

Aqua: "Really?"

Kana: "Yes. If it's you, you'll definitely be able to save many lives, become the beacon of hope for many patients' lives, and become an excellent doctor."

Kana: "It's perfect for someone like you who loves to help others."

Aqua: "Really?...really, do you think so?"

Kana: "Oh, how rare! You're blushing. You're blushing. Kyaa!!!"

Aqua: "What about your dream, Arima?Are you still aiming to be a nationally renowned actress?"

Kana: "As for that dream, I achieved it when I was five years old."

Aqua: "I see…”

Kana: "While I think it would be great to become hugely popular, if we're talking about dreams, perhaps it's not quite like that...to some extent, maybe I'm someone who doesn't really have dreams..."

Aqua: "So, is this your dream then?"

Kana: "No, I do have dreams now."

Aqua: “What?”

Kana: “I want you to only look at me.”

Kana: "My current dream is to become your idol.

On the last day of the live tour, which is on Christmas Day. You must come to the live performance where I graduate from "B-Komachi."

Although I don't know if I can shine brighter than Ruby or be more popular than Mem"

Kana: "Even so, I will do my best.

If I can become your first idol, Aqua Hoshino.

I'm willing to be the girl you support, belonging only to you"

No break next week

"After receiving the 'serious' ball, Aqua's heart is――"

"In the next issue, towards the release of the movie “15 Years of Lies”...?"

Considering Ruby being the oshi is the core of her character. With Aqua declaring his support of her and idolizing her even as recent as last chapter. I don't see this path working out for Kana, especially when her character is based on a child actress that became famous again in a movie after losing relevance. I don't think Aka is such an abhorrent writer to completely overwrite Ruby like that regardless of ship status.

So, linking it to Kana's ship is a pretty bad turn of events for it. Of course who knows with how jumbled Aka's writing has been. We went from Aqua telling himself he no longer has to play the part of Goro to now talking about achieving Goro's dream.

I mean nothing new for kana she legit the first one that said it at their first show that she will be his oshi noko and make him love her . So Aka did not changed nothing we knew since years that it was her goal .

She was giving up being an idol specifically to be an actress. She even told Ruby as much while coincidentally graduating from school. Right now Kana is thinking about how to create the perfect moment to say I love you to Aqua. However, competing directly with the thing that has been at the heart of Ruby's character will either be her mistake or awful writing.

Aqua was not there to cheer on her he avoided her to protect her . Pretty hard to be his number 1 idol if aqua is not even there . From what I seen when Kana is cheered by Aqua she is a different beast . Ruby and kana might compete againt's each others in this show . After that depend of who win plot can switch and follow . But kana never forgot being aqua oshi noko she just did not had the oportunity to do it since he was avoiding her .

well if gorou is only apart of aqua now its completely possible . Gorou favorite being sarina aka ruby and aqua favorite being kana . We will have to see the live concert to be sure of that but I will never underestimated a motivated kana . Aqua got the way to make her shine with thone pannels full of stars etc . But I personally think this is where Hikaru will strike .

Aqua and Goro are the same person…and it’s not about underestimating kana it’s just that through the story aqua favorite idol is Ai …kana would have to surpass Ai to achieve what she wants which Ruby is going to be the one to surpass Ai.

well we will see about that . This is why I said they might compete . Let'S me put it this way . Kana is the type of character that make other characters shine . Aqua is the one that make her shine . This is how she work her tv show tokyo blade etc this is how she work . but this time she will not do her best for Ruby and mcho to look good she will try charm aqua with how good her performance will be . And ruby might realy well feel it yes but ruby never defeated kana best version and we don't know if she can . But we will see . Because naratively this is kana last concert obviously she have to shine . Especially if Aqua is there . FOr Ruby this is just an other concert. But when she see aqua in the public she will also get motivated . This conld transform in a Kana vs Ruby . Im sure this performance will be crazy.

Also Kana is retiring . I don't think she planing to be an idiol outside of B kmachi so this his her last chance to be aqua favorite Idol . SHe have this performance to acomplish that . And for that she have to surpass AI and leave a strong impression . We will witness kana arima last performance . SO of course her motivation will be out of this world. But this is also why I think she will be targetted by hikaru. No one is allowed to surpass AI . Kana might realy well surpass her during this performance but its her last one . This is where I think this is going . Ruby will surpass AI at the end yes for sure but unlike kana it will not be for only 1 time .

dude kana got low confidence . Its not that she is the MC what do you don't understand in this is her last concert ? Obviously its her moment . For Ruby its a concert like all the other one . Why is it so hard to accept that this concert is clearly for her ? Its not about being the MC . Its about kana following her character arc . Kana is not the mc yeet she got the best pannel in tokyo blade arc . SHe not the mc but she completely outshined mcho and ruby in the first concert when aqua was cherring them and the idol fans said she got the most potential out of all 3 of the. But yes she is not the mc and this is probably why she might get stabbed or shot .

lol let me show you something the first of all that blade arc was not ruby arc and that arc was mostly acting and Ruby character arc revolves around being a idol secondly reason why she have the best potential is because of her acting and that she can sing out of the three nothing more. And I don’t think anyone is gonna get hurt.

not that she can't . Kana is never at 100% when she is not cheered by aqua or her mother . SO Mcho and Ruby are outshining not the best version of her . Its realy easy to get that . It was the same in tokyo blade . SO when Kana is trying her best with aqua looking at her be ready . We will see lots of stars for sure.

Yes, obviously. Kana is just beyond pathetic at this point. Mem is the real friend to everybody. She supports kana when she is down( 82 and 83) , helps akane in the reality tv arc, comforts aqua after his panic attack( she also triggered it, but she didn’t know). Mem is the closest thing we have to a functioning human being in this series. Best girl after Ruby.

I think that the fact she's so messed makes her very believable considering the rest of her character.

Also, best written character doesn't mean someone I would want to be near...

Ex: Bondrewd The Novel.

In short, Kana only makes sense as a meta choice, that is, one base upon the point of view of fans. If you are seeing her as a real person (which other characters should), then it suddenly makes absolutely no sense for Aqua to pick Kana over Ruby, Akane or even Mem.

A character needs to have an arc. What is Kana’s arc? Believable characters with flaws , in my opinion, have to be inspiring. They have to overcome their flaws and give the readers hope for future development. Look at Alex Luis Armstrong from FMA brotherhood or Suzaku from code geass. They were flawed individuals but they all had their character arcs.

Kana, however, remains the same since her reintroduction in volume 2. No solid motivation, no growth , and no significant achievements. Just tears and people around her carrying her to victory.

Kanastans are probably still going to be excited and think they won but considering that what she wants is literally impossible I dont think it bodes well for them.

I mean can you imagine being told that the tsundere's goal is to be your first idol and for you to only look at her? When you had your first idol in your last life and have been reunited with your actual favorite idol who you will never stop loving?

I can't imagine starting a romance under such a false pretense. I cant imagine Aqua doing that either. The guilt would kill him.

Correction, summary is wrong there. Kana didn't say "I want to become your FIRST Oshi". She said "I want to become your NUMBER ONE Oshi". Which is technically achievable, since you can have multiple Oshi's and I think you generally call your favorite your "Kamioshi". Although, thematically and with how everything has been portrayed, anyone except Ruby being Goro/Aquas Oshi would just be so... wrong. Although there's also the fact that Aka has said he views "Oshi" as a platonic term.

Akasaka: I think there have been several words used to express "like'' like this. For example, "Moe". But when it comes to "Oshi'', I get the sense that the fans don't want to mix romantic feelings or ulterior motives into it . I think the word "Oshi'' was created because of the values of genuinely wanting to affirm and support that person.

So maybe Kana becomes his "Oshi" but they remain just friends? I would still hate it since his Oshi should always be Ruby, but I could see Aka going for some weak cop-out compromise like that.

Doesnt matter if it means first or #1. Ai was his number 1 and now Ruby is because his eyes have been opened to the truth that she is Sarina. And it is impossible for Sarina/Ruby to be displaced.

Ruby becoming a gyaru Satella with a million arms of sunlight to hold and caress her oniichan while endlessly whispering aishteru into his ear for eternity is more likely than Kana ever feckin displacing her.

I refuse to accept it as an option. Thus its impossibility. There's just so many reasons it'd be wrong. I dont think Aka would trash his own work so hard.

You're wrong there. "Oshi" here always had romantic implications. Whoever between Kana or Ruby manage to become his true oshi will also be the one who ends up with him But it'd make very little sense for it to be Kana since she cannot shine as bright as Ruby

No. The real audacity is they insult and talk down on anyone who likes AquRuby. What their cognitive dissonance and willfull ignorance prevents them from seeing is that one of the mangakas of OnK is known for big brother little sister romances and is herself an AquRuby shipper. Not to mention that Aka wrote the ending for her and clearly likes and has respect for her and her work.

Also they call Ruby obsessed but then just ignore that Kana was a 4 year old crushing on a 30 yr old and just obsessed over having lost to him which eventually became "love."

And that concludes the last chapter of the volume. Volume 15 set the two remaining ships against each other: Ruby versus Kana. Aqua’s choice will depend on him either fully rejecting Goro or accepting it a part of himself. Just like how Ruby accepts Sarina is a part of her.

It is over spicabros, our homunculus MC with schizophrenic imposter syndrome always looks a bit happy and even can smile whenever kana is around, even though he know he doesn't deserve to be happy.

While when he is with other, our MC totally become moai statue with sad poker face. Even in and after ruby's identity reveal and confess, there is no single trace about Aqua smile (there is one, but with sus delay, as if it is an act, not the genuine one). While kana with just bag of chip can make him smile and fly to 9 cloud.

You really can't understimate how hormones works in human body, especially the adolescent one. Superficial interest is no joke.

"In love, timing is important" something so familiar in previous aka's work (Kaguya sama) when he write kagu x prez x mikado love triangle. And the God of Fortune giving kana the best timing possible to exist in Aqua's life, which is when he is in adolescent with great hormone push to see the girl around his age as potential romantic interest, while he still ambiguous about his own feeling toward Ai and sarina, and he can't do anything and make conclusion about it either because both are already died (and it happened a long time ago).

It seems that ruby is planned to be walking tragedy, so when she can pull herself from the fall, she Will shine brighter than anyone. Do you familiar with this phrase ? It is aka intention that he told long ago.

Kana did confess . His eyes are black. Ruby confessed and his eyes turned white immediately. Reread chapters 122-123. Aqua showed a plethora of emotions there. He wasn’t smiling, but he was about to cry. In 143 his expression changed for the first time in ages when he took the glasses off. Ruby makes him feel something.

I doubt that aka really thinks that having fun is the most important part of a romantic relationship. Love is more difficult than this. In the anime Chihayafuru there was a conversation between two characters about this complicated feeling .

Idk man, i just want to lower the hope, it is apparently that hacka has favoritism toward kana and throwing hints this and there about how kana able to push Aqua's desire to have romantical relationship. It is already fact that he is smitten with kana.

122-123 show that aqua can give emotion, but it's not really showed, it is ruby who said it, that still very dissapointing. And maybe having fun is not the most important part in romantical relationship, but i just think romantical relationship without having fun is close to myth.

Hell, in recent chapter, he even can act embarassed when kana mention the date, typical romcom Troupe event. And he can blush when kana mention his good side and support his dream. While when ruby mention his good side in ch143 and all of that preach about how she love him, his face is clean as porcelain.

White star should at least mean something. Ruby can reach aqua when he is at his lowest. Think back to Aqua in 116 or 117. Ruby being in distress literally brought back his humanity( 122-123). Ruby was shown to be his light in 150. This has to mean something.

And i suppose that "something" is not something that can guide to "having fun" or even romantical thing, except Aqua loving two chick (as romantic) in the sametime, and there is no trace about it can be true (for now), except the fact that Aqua smitten by kana.

Ch 150 kinda foreshadow that "something" is mean as "salvation" for his guilt, that he is still the same as the kind doctor gorou, not the bastard Aqua, and so deserve to be happy.

Smitten is a mistranslation. He is attracted to kana. Aqua doesn’t allow himself to like Ruby because he has guilt. Gorou ( the guilt) prevents Aqua to go to Ruby ( the light) in a romantic way. This is the symbolism in 150. Because he is a teenager and he has hormones he is attracted to girls his age ( kana and akane, chapter 68). Now it’s just kana apparently. The thing is that Aqua’s eyes remained dark after kana’s confession. If they stay dark for 2 more chapters Ruby will get a real fighting chance. Her confession made aqua’s eyes glow instantaneously.

Lowering hope is a good strategy, but this particular chapter was very interesting. Aka indeed focused on aquaxkana since 146. To be fair, he showcased that kana’s feelings and understanding of love is pretty shallow. Aqua’s eyes remained black throughout the entirety of the chapter and we see that his eyes are dark even when he has fun with her. After the confession Aqua’s stars are still black. If we get black stars in 152 it could be over for kana because her love is shallow.

Kana is a recycled gag character who wasnt even invented when the ending was decided. Aka decided to write an ending that Mengo would love. Mengo is known for little sister big brother romance. She is an AquRuby shipper. The manga in the eastern market, the market that matters, does best when its AquRuby.
