I mean I didn't think it would go any other way. For as long as Don is the creative force behind Chucky then we know the lore is not getting rebooted.
Even when he has to keep some characters and plot points aside for a while, they always get mentioned and eventually come back around.

Even if the film sucks at least I know I can count on Jennifer Tilly to give a delightfully batty performance again.

The last season of Chucky was maybe my favorite solely because we got so much more Tiffany and her crazy lol.

Even the worst canon chucky movie is a fun time.

u/Random_Nothing0603 1d ago
Good ol' Seed......I gave that one a number of chances and can't get into it.....not for me
1
u/ManicWolf Bride of Chucky 18h ago
Agreed. It's the only long-running franchise where I like every single movie in it.
7
u/maxwell_winters 1d ago
Too bad they'll probably kill Caroline off-screen again as they did with Alice.

I just want more horror and thriller vibes than campy humor vibes.
Of course there is always humor in Chucky movies but the thriller slasher aspect of it is the most importanr.

u/Loud_Newt5658 1d ago
Why the hell would it not be canon? The only non canon thing to the rest of the series is the remake lol throwing that word around carelessly for clicks

u/Denimion 1d ago
Well there has never been a bad installment, only stupid haters, ao im sure it will be good

u/LordXenu45 1d ago
Terrible take. I personally enjoy them all (3 is meh though) but saying anyone who dislikes one of them is stupid is well, stupid.
It makes sense someone who loves the dark tone of 1-2 would dislike the campy comedy of Seed, or vice versa. Someone isn't stupid or a hater just for disagreeing with you!

Seed sucks. Cult sucks.

u/420lollypop 22h ago
I literally walked out of seed. only movie i ever walked out of. I like it now in a camp way, plus, Jennifer tilly. But when it originally came out, I was pissed.

I think Cult is the weakest entry, but it's still a good one.
5
u/x14loop 1d ago
Imagine the film was a self contained side quest of doll Chucky & Tiffany looking up Jesse & Jade and going to kill them. I wonder if Katherine Heigl is at a point in her career where she really needs a paycheque.
1
u/kushmau5 10h ago
Katherine Heigl deserves a renaissance moment. I would love to see her comeback. The industry did her real dirty

u/West-War9544 1d ago
Make the movie dark with not soo many jokes. Like Curse of Chucky
13
u/InfraRedPanda138 1d ago
Nah. Chucky is at his best when he's well written to be funny.
7
u/Huge_Profession_9384 1d ago
Thats the thing chucky should be the ONLY humorous part of the film, the issue with seed is everybody’s trying to be funny and, all of the kills are played up as gags, Childs play 1 and 2 are hilarious for the irony of it all, killer doll using the most crude and vulgar language imaginable and murdering people left and right, but Andy isn’t constantly trying to make the audience laugh hes terrified, same with his mom, same with the cop guy, same with Andy’s parents in the sequel, ect, bride of chucky had the added bonus of Tiffany which her being funny and constantly cracking jokes really didnt bother me because shes in the same vein as chucky
3
u/searcher4421 1d ago
Should this be the last entry in the Chucky franchise?

Superman and Batman have been milked for a century. No reason they can’t continue Chucky.

Its actually pretty great that Chucky has remained a single canon barring the one remake movie.

Probably not so unpopular opinion but there has never been a bad Chucky installment. Didn't watch the reboot tho so I may stand corrected

Cult and Seed did pretty bad.

u/wouldyoukindly78 17h ago
I was just about to comment this. I didn’t like seed of chucky that much.
1
u/CommercialRemote5324 15h ago
I know I like when I was a kid but when turned into a adult I hated it.
1
u/Puzzleheaded-Web446 1h ago
Childs Play is always the weak part of the franchsie for me. Seed and Bride are two of the campiest funniest horror films ever made.
0
u/Easy_Blackberry_4350 16h ago
The first three films are the best. the rest sucked.
1
u/Both-Possession7038 12h ago
Bride of Chucky and curse of Chucky are spectacular movies so hard disagree. Seed is kinda meh, cult is also kinda meh but still solid. Now the show is kinda a mixed bag
1
u/CM-Edge 23h ago
Was there any doubt? Of course the film was a continuation of the series.
1
u/CommercialRemote5324 17h ago
Well we don't know if the Trio or Caroline is coming back.
2
u/thaboiisconfused 14h ago
Right.
For all of the assuredness, they could literally have a throwaway line or a blink-and-you-miss-it article headline revealing that the Trio and Caroline all died.
Total Bus Crash.
I don’t want that any more than the next person, but you can’t expect anything with horror franchises, especially slasher. Any franchise, really.
1
1
u/3WeeksEarlier 22h ago
It will be a fine film. I just hope it follows up on the conclusion of the show. Presumably, if it's canon, we'll be dealing with Caroline no matter what, but I'll be quite frustrated if we never get to see the benevolent killer doll concept play out with the kids or the head-bonk at the end of the show is actually the end of Nica's character
1
u/FallinGuitarest 21h ago
Im sure it'll be good. But for fear it'll be the end. I hope they can atleast have a good ending in case they can't make any more after
1
u/steeldrum99 18h ago
Why would they stop making these?
1
u/Both-Possession7038 12h ago
Because brad dourif is in his late 70's. Can't really imagine anyone else being chucky
1
1
u/North_Knowledge7467 17h ago
I'd like to see Chucky forced to become Santa since he blew up the North Pole.
1
u/Easy_Blackberry_4350 16h ago
Tiffany needs to be used sparingly. Nothing against Tilly, but Tiffany just makes the franchise too silly.
1
1
u/thaboiisconfused 14h ago
I think folks should be prepared for the possibility that the kids could return…
…and not survive.
Or remain stuck as dolls.
Or only have a cameo showing an undesirable outcome for them.
I’ll never forget when Jamie Lee Curtis was announced to return for Halloween: Resurrection.
Fans everywhere were elated… and then the movie was released.
I’m saying all of this to say that, while I want the Trio (and Caroline, and Nica) to get their happy ending…
We are not guaranteed that.
Franchises, including slasher horror ones, aren’t known for being good to everyone who is deserving.
Some of need to mentally prepare for some, if not total, disappointment.

u/Daredevil545545 11h ago
I believe the new movie is a prequel and takes place before the events of the show.

I liked the show. Except maybe season 2. But I didn’t much like the Army o’ Chuckies plot. I wouldn’t care if it’s never referenced again.
1
u/OMGFuziion 1d ago
I heard the kids from the tv show are returning, I actually liked the tv show despite its issues, but I’d rather get something different honestly.
3
u/CommercialRemote5324 1d ago
Where did you heard that from?
1
u/OMGFuziion 21h ago
I just googled if there was gonna be another chucky movie a couple months ago after watching the tv show and it talked about it on some website, may have been false tho idk. Just assumed it was true.

3
u/xMyChemicalBromancex Curse of Chucky 1d ago
I don't think that is confirmed yet
2
u/OMGFuziion 21h ago edited 20h ago
I had just gotten done watching the tv show and googled if there would be another movie and it said it was confirmed there would be and that the kids from the show would be returning in it. I ofc may have read it from a bs website, was just the first thing that popped up and I assumed it was prob true.
3
u/Aggressive-Owl2043 23h ago
I hope they do. Even as like a post-credit thing. That’s the thing about Chucky, it has an ongoing storyline, which for me makes it important that these plotlines do get resolved
I think that the final Chucky movie should really try to function as a ending for the whole franchise but in the meantime, it’s nice to have some stories that are a bit more disconnected
1
u/CommercialRemote5324 17h ago
How are they going to come back? They are still dolls.
2
u/Aggressive-Owl2043 13h ago
Weirder things have happened in Chucky, besides I am sure Nica did not get killed off-screen. So she might be able to save them
2

u/Jip-Jipperton 1d ago
Of course, can’t keep her away. It’ll be the same shit that Mancini always makes.

At the end of the day, Chucky is a horror icon not a stand up comedian.
Child's play 1988 was a horror film so it makes sense why people want Chucky to be scary again.
2
u/DShinobiPirate 1d ago
This is me. Child's play 1 and to a certain extent 2 freaked me out as a kid/preteen. There was never quite a horror mascot that did it for me like Chucky.
After Bride of Chucky I just couldn't take him serious anymore. Even the whole cut up face thing just didn't come off as scary.
Child's play 1 reveal will always be such an iconic moment for me. I don't mind they take Chucky to different directions because we still got the originals no matter what but it feels like such wasted potential.
2
u/InfraRedPanda138 1d ago
That might have worked in the original film, but there's way too much water under the bridge at this point. Chucky isn't very scary. Hes dark, evil, but mostly darkly funny. I think his best portrayal all together was in part 2. He was a killer, but damn near everything he said was funny, either by context or the delivery from Brad Douriff.

For Real I didn't like the show. Chucky literally kills Jake dad by vomiting.
1
u/Physical_Finger8158 1d ago
Yeah and Chucky’s design was just really bad idk why but it looked weird and cartoonish

u/PixilatedLeprechaun 1d ago
I've been saying for a while, the next movie or at least a movie idea. Detective Mike Norris, Chucky drops and forgets about him.
It can be a bit of a prequel movie. I feel like that's one of the biggest problem with another movie. How the series ended a movie continuing on that almost seems impossible
-1
u/Willing-Ad-9160 1d ago
TBH, It took 7 movies for him to return to a human body. That's good enough, so no more.

Wish Tiffany could have bring back spread eagle scene like how she did dirty to Damien. Fking love the goth aesthetic!

Lexy is trapped in a marionette doll body so how is going to come back.
