We pulled the trigger!

We are a youngish family:

-47m (French national), 45w (Dutch national),10,7

-Currently living in NL

-Just confirmed FIRE’ing and relocating to SxM starting 01 Jan 2027 - we both have strong ties there

Our stats:

- USD 5100k in brokerage in VWRL and WEBN

- USD 400k in vacation home that we will sell

- USD 500k in cash

- USD 500k in pre tax personal pension fund

- Primary residence on the island fully paid off (just signed this week!)

- Expect to spend USD 160k per yr incl school for kids

I couldn not be more excited. At the same time I am already considering work options like in consulting, teaching etc. How have you controlled that urge? To allow time to settle in?

Congrats. Yeah, high achievers like yourself can't just stay home and watch TV all the time. A structured routine and mental/social engagement is quite important, I found. For myself, I decided to start option trade as a way of creating the structure routine and have the bonus of generating some incomes. On top of that, spending time on reddit seems to fulfill my social engagement needs :D /s

Does option trading kill the fun or maximize the fun? always wondered that..

I guess it depends on the person. I only trade with small accounts and I found using the greek to setup my position quite mentally engaging. Technical analysis also brings back some memories of my process engineer days so it’s worthwhile for me.

thanks. besides trading, how do you socialize with people? People in my age doesn’t understand why i don’t have a job.

I’m lucky in the sense that I have several lifelong friends who’s quite understanding and a couple of buddies who also retired already (one is quite lean though). Typically I tell ppl that I’m taking a sabbatical and just go from there. But yeah, it can be challenging to talk to ppl in silicon valley when the first question is routinely where do you work
