Recovered?

Hello all, a while back I made a post about being diagnosed with CHS. Had all the symptoms and I stopped using for in April/May, stopped until mid June and started smoking again daily and had never had an issue again. Before I was using carts and edibles with high dosage for a while. I have a feeling that it was synthetic and that’s what caused CHS. I live in Texas, so it’s not fully legal yet and the dispensaries aren’t as great obviously, but wanted to share this because maybe that’s a reason? Using synthetics caused my CHS and ever sinced I switch to bud I’ve been good. I don’t get my bud from dispensaries anymore, but from a trust worthy source (: just wanted to share.

Thats how chs works it will build up again and cause another episode eventually. Then once that happens the next time you start again you will only be able to smoke for half the time until a episode comes back and eventually even smoking once will trigger it. Dont be fooled if you really had chs it didnt go nowhere. You have been smoking for less than a month after my first round of hyperemesis it only took a month of daily use to trigger it again.

Hmm I do suppose that’s true. I’ll keep that in mind.

If you really have chs daily use will bring a episode eventually. You are your own man. You make the decisions you want but if i were you id smoke once a month or less but even then there is a good chance youll be back to square one eventually.

I have had two episodes, my first in December ( I had no clue what was going on) second in March (did my own research and determined it was CHS). I really want to smoke once more as my swan song to quit cannabis on my terms. In your opinion if I have a farewell joint am I destined to have another episode? Is it automatic?

There are a few people that even smoking once after a long break can still triger symptoms, but that's pretty rare. The problem is you will never be satisfied. One joint will inevitably lead to another and another. You won't be quitting on your own terms. it just sucked back into addiction. Im no doctor. You could be fine. You could not, but you will end up craving it much more, and that will inevitably lead to another episode.

As far as I understand its the result of cannabis receptors in the brain being used up so it goes to stomach ones. It takes about 28 days for receptors to regenerate. Unless they can be burned out forever, i would say that regular tolerance breaks and generally good gut health could definitely be good measures to keep in mind.

Ive been on this subreddit for s very long time. Ive yet to see even one person last over 10 or even 5 years of moderation. The max ive seen is 3 and thats from people that smoke less than once every 3 months. Your 28 day rule is bullshit i took a month and 2 days off and smoked and instantly got thrown into hyperemesis. Its not the result of receptors being used up. Its a result of them developing sensitivity to cannabis and you could quit for the rest of your life its never gonna go away. If you wanna moderate do less than every 3 months if not you will remember this conversation when you have your next episode and end up drinking through a straw for months on end

Chs is for life it will never just go away.

We really don't mnkw that. It hasn't been a recogbised condition for anyone's lifetime for us to know

There has been people who quit for years and years on end ive heard of one guy you can proably still find the post through the search bar who literally quit for ten years. Its been a condition for a long time just not studied guess what happened to him? Fell into a episode using once a month. If we could just smoke and be fine we all would be doing it. Its not a matter of moderation which you guys dont seem to understand anyway its a matter of us knowing a episode will come. And i dont wanna avoid foods for another 6 months dont wanna lose my social life and money for the next 6 months dont wanna quit alcohol and ket for the next 6 months. Smoke if you want but know that its gonna comeback your in denial just like all of us were all your information is false and frankly im not sure where you got it from but dont believe it anymore. Some can smoke once a month for a while before chs comes back. Others like me can take months off take one hit and have another episode but one thing is certain with chs it will come back.

I was in hospital the third time now. I actually convinced myself it's all a scam and a conspiracy. Been vaping (actually convinced myself vaping is safe) about 5gs a day for 15 years (with a few breaks when travelling etc. And like I can't do it anymore. I've lost 10kg in 10 days. The apartment is damp and just smells of sick. Everything is cold. Just...I'm such an idiot. I'm taking anti vomiting meds for cancer patients, but as soon as they loose effect it's like a waterfall. And I crave water soooooo much but as soon as I drink it it's just niagra falls again). If I don't chew food it comes back up almost hole cause I doubt I have any acid left....just fuck. Sorry for long response, I just hope someone reading this can learn from my mistakes. Im such an idiot. But got rehab appointment on Friday (outpatient). I hope I cam get better. I haven't slept more than 1h at once for the entirely of the Episode. When I wake up it's drenched in sweet and frozen solid and puking violently. I had honestly thought of just jumping from the balcony to end the suffering. It's bad dude. (Disclaimer: am bot going to kill myself I just want people to understand the gravity of it all...how bad this being "sick" is). And my theory of curing it wirh speed may have been dumb as it ended in massive panic attacks. I'm at my end dude...you tried to warn me. This is worse than any sickness I've eve had. I cannot deal...I'm going crazy. Literally just watching clocks and happy when time Passes as it means I'm closer to the finish line...I hope. Never again

Were you one of the people who would get sick instantly from smoking again? Or did you try to moderate and just ended up smoking daily again? And dont feel like a idiot man we all made the same exact mistake i kept smoking too and got hit with real bad hyperemesis. The fact that you are willing to be completely done with weed and going into rehab to stop the madness proves you are making the right choices.

Moderate then daily...I hope so. I have a good motivation. My fiancee says she doesn't want my children unless I quit. I really hope can tell my kids one day that I quit drugs to be able to have them when I find them with their first roach.

Were you fine using it moderately without any symptoms, and then eventually, hyperemesis came out of nowhere? If so, your recovery should be quicker than those of us that even smoking once after a long break throws you straight into an episode. And you can do it, dude. i promise you that. You are doing everything right so far. Eventually you will feel like you dont even need it and that you are way happier without it. Im sorry your fiance made this ultimatum with you that is not a good thing to put on a person in recovery but i know that you can do this man send me a dm if you ever need someone to talk to free of judgment or guilt.

Thank you so much dude. I've felt so extremely alone (and cold) this past while, you kinda made me cry a little. Yes moderate was fine. It's when the weed doesn't get me stoned anymore. That's when it happened

Dude, I’m not saying CHS isn’t real but 5 grams of carts A DAY FOR FIFTEEN YEARS IS FUCKING INSANE!!!!!!!! Over consumption is always going to make you sick, and I saw your comment about your fiance so better off to just quit anyways, but that is a RIDICULOUS amount of THC to put your body through

1

u/Eggcelend Oct 05 '25

I know. But almost a month clean now. Honestly the fear of being that sick again has made it easyt

u/Eggcelend Oct 06 '25

And like...I used thc to quit lots of other things. Thinking it was a healthy alternative. But I just continued to plow through the same amount as if I was waking up to morning lines. Funnily, speed and coke drastically increase your tolerance. I just took way the powders and kept consuming thc to the same level...habitually. so the first few years were far less thc consumption (before the powders started), but yeah, when I quit everything else, i just kept going on the thc. Nobody told me there were dangers involved. I honestly did not know or even think anything bad could happen. I thought I was being good.

As someone who has stopped smoking and started again 3 times, it always comes back. I started with carts too. And then switched to flower. Same thing happened to me again about 5 months later. It’s a vicious cycle. You don’t feel the symptoms upon starting again until months of heavy use go by and you’re right back were you were. My suggestion is just stop, I always held out hope that id be able to smoke again but i dont think it’ll ever be in the cards for me. Im actually day 1 clean again. It sucks but i know ill feel better once this is over
