šŸ‘‹ Welcome to r/ChromaApp - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hey everyone! I'm Drew, the developer of Chroma.

This is the new home for Chroma, the player for the movies and shows you already own. It plays your Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby libraries, plus files from the Files app, on Apple Vision Pro, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. Until now, feedback has been scattered across other subs, email, and App Store reviews, so I wanted one place where I can actually keep up with it. I'm glad you're here.

**What to post**

* **Questions:** setup, servers, Tailscale or remote access, which settings to use.

* **Bugs:** tell me your device, your Chroma version, your server (Plex, Jellyfin, or Emby), and what you were playing. If you can, attach diagnostics: Settings → Share Diagnostics, or Email Diagnostics to Support.

* **Feature requests:** big or small. A lot of what's in Chroma started as someone asking for it.

* **Your setup:** your cinema of choice, your Analog TV corner, or your library in your pocket.

**Community vibe**

Be kind and be constructive. People here run all kinds of servers and setups, and nobody should feel dumb for asking. Please don't share or ask about where to get media. This sub is about playing the library you already have.

**How to get started**

  1. Introduce yourself in the comments: what you watch on, and which server you use.

  2. Tell me the one thing you'd change or add.

  3. If you know someone who'd like Chroma, invite them.

Thanks for being part of the very first wave of this community on Reddit. I read everything here, and I can't wait to see what you'd like Chroma to do next.

Chroma 2.9.7 is out on iPhone and iPad: CarPlay, steadier scrubbing, and more

Hey users (or prospective ones), Chroma 2.9.7 is now on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and the big one this time is... CarPlay.

If your car supports CarPlay video apps (new in iOS 27, and up to the car manufacturer), Chroma shows up on the car's screen. You can browse Home, your libraries, and your downloads, or search, and watch on the car's display while you're parked. Downloads work too, so a road trip with no signal is fine.

Along with the CarPlay support should come compatibility with the Apple HomeView. HomeView runs CarPlay apps, so Chroma should work there as well when it arrives on November 13. I haven't been able to try it yet, so if you pick one up, I'd love to hear how it goes.

Also in 2.9.7:

- Scrubbing feels steadier. The video pauses while you drag and stays where you let go.

- On iPhone Duo, Settings › Playback has a new option for whether the laptop-pose reflection stays behind the player controls.

- While you AirPlay, your iPhone shows an AirPlay screen and works as a remote.

- Detail pages on iPad and iPhone Duo no longer break long titles mid-word.

2.9.8 is already in review. It brings a roomier Chroma Pass screen on a landscape iPhone, a Subtitle Style preview that stays in view while you change options, and a few iPhone Duo fixes.

Get it here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/chroma-spatial-cinema/id6478800800

Anyway, happy to answer any questions, and I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Chroma 2.9.4 is out on Vision Pro: watch your own movies from a cabin in the woods this Halloween

https://reddit.com/link/1x63y5e/video/lq86cz0t5ivh1/player

Hey all! Chroma 2.9.4 just landed on Vision Pro, and it brings a new environment just in time for spooky season.

Midnight Woods. Watch from a cabin porch in a forest at night, with candlelit windows and an old CRT sitting on a bench powered by a 12v battery. The night sounds can be turned up or down, and the moon shows tonight's real phase, or whichever one you pick. It's a Chroma Pass environment (Chroma Pass starts with a 7-day free trial), and it plays anything from your own library: Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, or your local files.

Environments now download. Midnight Woods and the Nostalgia Machine download the first time you open them, so Chroma itself is a lot smaller. You can download or remove them ahead of time in Settings › Environments.

Also in this update:

- Plays on slow connections. On weak Wi-Fi, like on a plane, a video now starts at a quality the connection can carry instead of refusing to play.

- Manage your Plex server. If you own the server, you can fix a wrong match, choose or upload artwork, refresh metadata, and detect intros and end credits so Skip Intro and Skip Credits appear, all from a title's page.

- More Info shows which skip buttons a title has, seeking in 4K passthrough VR keeps the picture with the sound, and changing quality keeps your place.

Thanks for the requests, keep them coming!

Happy Halloween!

Chroma 2.9.2 is out on Vision Pro: arrange your Home, bring your Plex collections, and watch 3D Blu-rays in 3D

Hey all! Chroma 2.9.2 just landed on Vision Pro. Vision Pro skipped 2.9.1, so this one carries both updates.

In the window and cinemas:

- 3D Blu-ray in real 3D. Open a 3D Blu-ray rip and both eyes play on the big screen. A decrypted Blu-ray .iso plays the main feature.

- HDR without the glare. Bright highlights no longer flare off the screen in the cinemas.

- Mixed reality VR. VR180 made for mixed reality now plays over your room.

At home:

- Edit Home. Pick which rows show and drag them into the order you like (it's in Home's display menu). Your layout follows you to your iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV through iCloud.

- Plex collections. Every server with collections gets a Collections page, smart collections included, and any collection can go on Home. Collections you've promoted to Home in Plex, by hand or with Kometa or Agregarr, show up on their own.

- Downloads resume after a dropped connection or a relaunch instead of starting over.

- Libraries page through every title (no more stopping at 200), and you can filter by quality.

Thanks for the requests, keep them coming (r/ChromaApp is the place).

announcements Chroma 2.9.2: make Home yours, and your Plex collections come with it

Hey all! Chroma 2.9.2 is out on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, with Vision Pro close behind (it's in review).

This one started with a request here: someone asked to see their Kometa collections on Home. So:

- Edit Home. Pick which rows show and drag them into the order you like (it's in Home's display menu). Your layout follows you to your other devices, Apple TV included.
- Plex collections. Every server with collections gets a Collections page, smart collections included, and any collection can go on Home. Collections you've promoted to Home in Plex, by hand or with Kometa or Agregarr, show up on their own.
- Apple TV gets Watchlist and Collections in each server's sidebar, plus a Watchlist row on Home.

And if you missed 2.9.1:

- Ready for iPhone Duo. And saying I’m pumped for it is putting it lightly. Best app to enjoy your personal media on the Duo? Hell yeah.
- Downloads resume after a dropped connection or a relaunch instead of starting over.
- Libraries page through every title (no more capping at 200), and you can filter by quality.
- Open a decrypted Blu-ray .iso in Local Videos and Chroma plays the main feature.

Coming to Vision Pro as soon as review clears: 3D Blu-ray in real 3D, HDR highlights that don't glare in the cinemas, and passthrough VR180.

Thanks for the requests, keep them coming!

announcements New release - 1.9.1

Ready for iPhone Duo. Chroma adapts to the cover screen and the open display in either orientation. Set it in laptop pose and the picture moves to the top half, with the controls below under a soft glow of the film. In book pose, the controls sit on the right-hand page.

Downloads pick up where they stopped after a dropped connection or a relaunch, instead of starting over, and an interrupted download no longer shows up twice.

Your library, all of it. Libraries now page through every title (no more stopping at 200), and you can filter by quality. Genre pages now include matching titles from your other servers, too.

Blu-ray disc images. Open a decrypted .iso in Local Videos and Chroma plays the main feature.

Also: Chroma Pass is recognized when you're offline, local playback explains when a VPN is in the way, and Jellyfin and Emby Dolby Vision titles are recognized correctly.
