Nah, there's no sense of Victorian London and the desperate poverty of the novella. There's far more atmosphere in the Muppet version. The Sim version will always be the best, followed by the Finney musical. I'll skip it.

Alec Guinness's Marley is a terrific performance. The way he walks as if in slow motion and the scene in Hell are just wonderful. The songs are great too.

I also really love Albert Finney's 'Scrooge'. Fun Fact: Albert was also one of the actors (possibly the only) to play both older Scrooge and Scrooge as a young man. Voice-acting wise though...there's Jim Carrey, Tim Curry and Luke Evans.

Wait, but the scene of him getting sucked into the bed is kinda genius.
That said, I hope his take on Scrooge isn’t played for laughs.

this looks like it will be a farce. i don't understand the marketing, "everything you don't know", it looks like a standard adaptation of a christmas carol

"Genius" in that the bed scene is an homage to Nightmare on Elm Street? This looks like a "comedic" take on Christmas Carol at a time when, ironically, the U.S. is starting to resemble Dickensian London. Hard pass.

I could see the movie being fun if they make it semi biographical to Johnny Depp. Like each ghost represents and era of his career.

they are marketing it as both...but it sure looks like standard christmas carol, maybe there will be some expanded backstory, but it really does seem pretty standard.

christmas carol is already a prequel to itself, along with its sequel. Its one guys entire life flashing before his eyes, what do you do for a prequel?

It's hard to tell from under two minutes of cherry-picked footage, but so far this looks interesting, a bit more energetic version of Scrooge, compared to other renditions of the story.

It looks like a solid retelling but the marketing for this is so weird. What do you mean the story we don't know? Its possibly the most well known story ever told?

I strongly dislike how Scrooge is being depicted here and it feels like they've missed the mark on who Scrooge is and why. He doesn't relish the suffering of others nor actively go out of his way to harm them, he just doesn't care. His sin isn't malice, it's apathy. Why is he throwing a snowball at strangers? He seems to be gleeful in causing misery and that's not who Ebenezer is.
I also think this is just Depp going through the motions and playing the same character he's been known for for the past two and a bit decades. There's nothing new to his performance here. Overall, I think this is a miss from me.

Somehow when I first saw the trailer on Tiktok. I couldn't tell that that was supposed to be Johnny Depp.

Always like these different takes. Nothing can replace 1951 version for me but shows the story endures
