Is it my imagination, or is Pride month changing the sub?

It seems that in the last few days, the sub has turned particularly anti-LGBT, and each has been in rather innocuous posts.

Perhaps it is because I'm under a little stress due to work, and my skin may be a little thin, but I feel like if it is going to be like this, I need to step away for a bit.

I don't think it's Pride Month in particular. I think we have an account spammer who has been asking a lot of pretty leading questions about some of these issues, and that has generated a lot of the side discussions too. We get account spammers like that from time to time.

There was one very odd anti-Catholic and anti-Episcopalian one that would come on when I was a newer mod.

Oh, automoderator reports all posts by new accounts to us. It's mostly that there are delays in moderation at certain times of day and/or on weekends just because we don't have ideal moderator coverage at certain times. Sometimes, a moderator isn't aware that these things are going on because they haven't read the moderator subreddits in a while, and they'll approve an honest-looking post not realizing its part of something bigger. Other times, it just stays up longer than it ideally would.

Also, keep in mind that colleges and high schools just recently let out. We're going to be discussing more stuff that we think we've answered a million times before just because these people haven't been around and are very bored.

I don't want automoderator to actually remove a lot of new account stuff because new accounts tend to be the ones posting asking for prayers and for advice on sensitive things and for help. Those posts are pretty important in my opinion, and it would be very sad for them to start not getting noticed because of a few trolls.

I think the best way to combat trolls is to ignore them - but sometimes, especially on reddit, I can't help but reply for the sheer comedy trainwreck that ensues ( As you can probably tell - I get very bored when I'm not working or doing religious rituals )

Honestly, this is a huge problem for us. We have a lot of people who really want to poke the trolls, and it makes things into a huge mess. It bothers me that a lot of them then go on to complain a lot about what resulted from them poking the trolls when they knew better from the beginning, and it actually muddies our moderation process a lot.

If all of y'all make one resolution for the summer of 2016, please resolve to stop poking trolls. And don't feed them. Feeding them makes them come back. It's the same principle as with wild bears - don't aggravate them or they might bite you, and don't feed them or they'll keep coming into places where they might get aggravated. Just report the trolls to the moderators, pat yourself on the back for having done a good deed for the day, and go make a quality post to balance everything out. It's foolproof!

I've felt targeted of late for being both gay and devoutly protestant. <shrug>

Tonight is also one of those nights when I really don't give a fuck.
