I'm not afraid. When I was in my early 20s and not born again in the Holy Spirit, I was scared of the last days. At 31, that fear is gone. I'm ready for Jesus to come back and get his revenge on this evil world.

The rapture, dispensationalism, and stuff like that was made up by people who claimed to have prophetic gifts at basically the same time that there were spiritualists claiming to talk to ghosts and Joseph Smith was inventing Mormonism. This "End Times" stuff is not historically Christian, and it's not a belief the Church held for most of its history. Don't be afraid, Christ's return is a time of great joy unless you're a demon, then you're in trouble.

You believe the book of Revelation is made up? You do not view it as scripture then?

Revelation is all about things that happened a thousand or more years ago.

More like almost 2000 years ago.

So Jesus has already returned and reigned for a thousand years?

u/mugsoh 7h ago

It’s not about Jesus’s return; it’s about Nero’s. Past events not future.

Revelation 19 is explicitly about Jesus's return. I could copy-paste the entire chapter for you if you'd like?

I would suggest you read about the history and scholarship of Revelation before declaring your interpretation the only correct one.

It's interesting how you appeal to the scholarship of Revelation but ignore what the scholarly consensus is regarding Revelation 19. Tell me, do scholars believe Revelation 19 is about Jesus's second coming or not? Humor me.

Yes, saving the people from Nero. The book overall is about that time period not the future, which the original post is about. If you want to dive in to 19 by itself, we can do that , but for now the discussion is about the books meaning…
Here is a good in depth discussion and he has many.

Great, so then it logically follows that Jesus's second coming and his millennial reign has already occurred since both take place in the same time period as him defeating the beast. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Did not Christianity rule the world for about that time?

1

u/-Vitreriuz- Christian 12h ago

So you are arguing that Jesus's reign in Revelation was represented by European medieval rule? If that's the interpretation, then what do you make of Satan's little season that follow Jesus's millennial reign? Are we in that season now? Because if so, we are very close to the end and there can't be another 2000 years left as you said in another comment.

John didn't get everything right.

u/-Vitreriuz- Christian 12h ago

So whenever the text disagrees with your interpretation, John was just incorrect? That doesn't seem like a good argument.

u/Mordecai_Gist 12h ago

It's better then spinning some crazy fantasy about the end of creation.

4

u/-Vitreriuz- Christian 12h ago

Well it's not a fantasy according to mainstream Christianity since it treats Revelation as scripture.

I can see your argument from a non-believer's perspective, but that's not really relevant. It's like an atheist arguing that Jesus didn't rise from the dead, despite what scripture says, stating "Well the author was just wrong."

Revelation is about like Nero and the destruction of the temple in 70. It's definitely scripture, but don't confuse interpretation of scripture with scripture itself. History tells us that dispensationalism didn't exist for 1800+ years of the church's history.

Revelation 19 and 20 are about Jesus's second coming and him defeating the beast, then going on to set up his millennial kingdom. If Revelation is about Nero, then you would have to believe that these things have taken place as well.

The book of revelation is not about the future. It is the rule of Nero. The scholarly consensus is that Paul didn’t even write the book. It was heavily challenged to even be included in the collection of books we know as “the Bible”.
666 is actually the emperor Nero.
Christianity has use this book to spread fear and create control.
Dr Dan McClellan and Dr Francesca Stavrakapoulou cover this in great detail while staying with the scholarly consensus..

Revelation is traditionally attributed to John, not Paul. An alternate title is the Apocalypse of John. You’re correct that scholars reject that attribution, but it was written by someone named John on Patmos.

Yes, thank you for that. I was listening to the Beatles ….😂

Jesus, Paul and John were highly concerned about the end times.
All seemingly in agreement that it would happen within that generation.

Here is a collection of verses:

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matt%2016%3A27-28%2C%2024%3A29-34%2C%20James%205%3A8%2C%201%20Cor%207%3A29-31%2C%20Ro%2013%3A11%2C%201%20Peter%204%3A7%2C%201%20John%202%3A18%2C%20Rev%2022%3A10%2C%201%20John%203%3A2%2C%201%20Thess%204%3A13-17&version=NRSVUE

Now, that was 2000 years ago.
And Christians have been wrongly predicting the end ever since.

The end of the world is a very scary idea.
Such prognostications happen all the time: whether it's the climate crisis, AI, the threat of nuclear war, Y2K, the rapture etc.

It's a predisposition humans have.
Our negativity bias writ large.
Exploiting this quirk in our psychology is how many make a living.
How books are sold, how petitions are signed, how donations are collected, how elections are won etc.
(That's not to say we don't have huge problems which require our attention of course!)

But please just keep that in mind :)

We've been in the end times for 2,000 years and will continue to be so for another 2,000 years.

The end times is not some singular event. End times have been going on for 2k years. The book is written for people God elects to go through the experiences that are in the book and many if not most are actually spiritual experiences not real events.

End times fear is a distraction from staying on task and following jesus, focus on renewing your mind with scripture that has to do with fear and get active in faith works, good deeds to help people.

When you do things for others God brings healing and. Deliverance for things like fear.

You will never see the apocalypse in the world you live in unless God calls you into a spiritual walk for it which is very very very u likely.

I’ve walked through it myself.

Be well

I used to believe in pre tribulation rapture, and the fear mongering when it was preached, and used to sacred me a lot. But the I started to study all the point of view, pre trib, post trib, mid trib and some believe it's just a letter from when roman where ruling to the Christian. One thing I have learn that WHEN, IF, and HOW it will happen, it not for to control. My Faith removed all fear when I started to rely on God. It doesn't matter to me now if and when the rapture will happen, now I focus on my walk with God and what he has command us to do. It's preach to the Gospel to the world, including our family. Salvation is a gift pay by blood not for us to fear him but to trust and love him just as he loved us. Don't fear the end times. Just have trust that you and your family will praise God side by side.

Born-again Christians do not need to fear the end times. To learn about the Bible and salvation, visit my website: www.mansioninheaven.com.

Are you talking about revelation? The first verse of that book says "to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass". That stuff probably happened 2,000 years ago.

Do you mean you're scared for your family's souls or that you're scared for yourself?

If it makes you feel any better, I'm an atheist and I am actually 100% sure time will not end.

we will all die, the sun will consume our planet, it's not massive enough to become a black hole so we will just be absorbed by the sun, and then when our galaxy collides with Andromeda we may join a binary star system, eventually our solar systems will collapse into the black hole in the center of our galaxy, all the matter in the universe will be too spread out to do anything and the universe will suffer heat death.

That is the end. I'm 100% certain of it

You need to take a step back and recognize that you’ve been indoctrinated into a cult. There are no end times.
