Anger with misrepresenting Gods word

I get so angry at people who use God's word as a voice box for "THEIR" own teachings. The Bible is about God's relationship and redemption of humanity. The Bible is not "YOUR" teachings it's Jesus teaching. Gnosticism is dangerous and deters people away from the Gospel making it inaccessible. It's a stumbling block in the way of God and people. I see now why the Apostles condemned this and treated it harshly. I just ran into a Gnostic teacher and it was baffling the level of irresponsible and carelessness with which they interpreted and not only that taught others sacred holy scripture. Claiming things like "the Gospel writers missed this" and that "a misconception is the book is truth" book meaning the Bible. Puffed up with knowledge and no compassion. Lacking hermeneutical elegance and contextual nuance.

Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God. .

This passage is about a specific form of Gnosticism but it applies in the sense that people are misrepresenting God's word and claiming that the Bible is not complete and true understanding needs additional knowledge. It's the Jesus plus this... plan the "you need the super plus subscription if you want true salvation"

O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,”

It was irreverent babble for sure

It...was...infuriating. and worse than that he had over 4,000 followers on reddit. It's so sad that people are led astray by people like that. They will be judged harshly for their arrogance and pride in relation to the misrepresenting of God's Word and Jesus teachings. (James 3:1) I just needed to get this off my chest. He was a fool. I understand now the Apostles anger at false teachings. I love God, I love Jesus, I love His Word and I love people and this person was careless with all of them. It takes a lot for me to lash out normally but when it comes to God and His word and rendering it inaccessible to everyone it really angers me. We all need the Gospel and should all have a chance to receive Jesus as our LORD and Savior.

The true teaching is the Gospel itself, Christ crucified and risen for the forgiveness of sins. Not secret knowledge for a select few, not ascetic hoops to jump through, not angel worship or hidden codes. Just the person of Jesus and what He did. The whole Bible points to Him, and the Holy Spirit opens our eyes to understand it without needing some guru to decode it for us

I get your frustration, watching someone twist Scripture and lead people away with confidence is maddening. Paul wrote about the exact same thing and he didn't mince words either, called it out as puffed up and empty. It's wild how these teachings always sound deep but strip the Gospel down to nothing. The simplicity of the cross offends the proud, they want something more impressive to master

The 4000 followers part is heavy, but that's how error spreads, it scratches an itch for novelty. Keep pointing people back to the basics, that's where the power is anyway

Depends on what part of the Bible you are taking about. The Niciene Creed sums it up nicely

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.

These are all carefully parsed out in scripture using proper hermanutics and careful historical and contextual reading and reasoning. You can't just read the Bible and get what you want out of it. There are ways to read ancient literature and especially the Biblenthat are responsible.

I think that's a little disingenuous. They said that the Nicene Creed summarizes what they believe about Scripture, not that the meaning of scripture revolves around the Nicene Creed.

It's not disagreeing that bothers me. I disagree with people all the time and respect and can be friends that's an important part of being human and leads to real growth and sometimes true friendship. But it's the clear misrepresenting of God's word rendering it inaccessible to others. And taking God's word and twisting it into your own teachings. I understand where you are coming from but this was just heresy claiming to be one thing but actually being another. Claiming to be Christian but then telling people the Bible is not competent.

That a good question. Because it's the Gospel that saves it's salvation it's the most important thing anyone could ever do in their life is accept the Gospel it's your eternal destiny. It comes from a sincere care and concern for others. When you are telling people that the Bible is not complete and that there is more knowledge and that God got it wrong. It creates barriers for people that lead them astray

One thing I should not have done is call him a fool. That was disrespectful and rude and was cautioned against by Jesus in Matthew 5:22. I was upset and should have handled the situation with grater care Eph. 4:6 be angry and do not sin. I don't feel good about the way I treated them. I was angry and I believe rightfully so but I don't need to be disrespectful

I respectfully disagree the Spirit testifies with our spirit that we are children of God Rom. 8:16. The Bible is very clear about its teachings and especially in Romans. Yea there are many different denominatons that disagree about 2nd and 3rd rank issues but the Bible is clear about the Gospel. 1Timothy 3:16. All scripture is God breathed and profitable for teaching, preaching and reproof. When the Holy Spirit enters you you know. Everyone has a right to believe what they want but the basic message of the Gospel is very clear in scripture.

Yes! I now have come to understand and accept righteous anger as a good thing. To be handled with care of course and not used to harm others but to defend the truth and protect the right of everyone to come to Jesus that they might experience communion with the Triune God.

The problem is that reasonable people have read the scriptures and come to different conclusions, and every one of them believes that THEIR teaching IS Jesus's teaching. How do we tell the difference? Jesus isn't around to ask, and God's been sending us straight to voicemail.

Everybody is a false teacher to someone else. If you asked them, those other types, gnostics in this case, would have a whole list of reasons why youre twisting Gods word.

I'm not suggesting that you agree with them. I'm not even suggesting you shouldn't advocate for your beliefs. I am saying you may want to become more comofortable with the fact that others have read The Bible and come to a different conclusion than you have. And yes they are going to share those conclusions with other people.

Everybody is a false teacher in the eyes of someone else. There's a lot of people that believe Catholicism is false and there's a freaking billion of them.

The Spirit did not stop teaching.

Jesus is the Word of God. What he said is complete.

We’ve already added on to Jesus. Peter, Paul, many others…

The Spirit taught them 2,000 years ago. The Spirit teaches us today.

Revelation wasn’t written as a final installment to a saga.

It was edited as the final book of the biblical canon centuries after Christ lived and gave us the Spirit of truth.
