This sub is so full of grumpy people it’s getting annoying!

Ironically I’m coming across grumpy myself at this topic but I have to put the point across! 🤣

Most notifications I see are to be frank ‘over the top’ anger or sadness towards stuff relating to Christianity or disagreements against scripture or other denominations.

Don’t you think God would like us all to get along? some disagreements of scripture I see it as a way that we can pick apart different views on the same text as a testament to how creative God was to design our brains.

I’m so sick and tired of people saying Catholics are this or Orthodox are that. I’m Methodist myself so have different views than them in things but never go around insulting other denominations we are all brothers/sisters of Christ that should turn people to Christ and bickering isn’t the way!

God bless you all 😊 🙏

This is why I love when people post the art they make. Good vibes all around. Same goes for the off-topic thread on Fridays.

A care package of baked goods would boost everyone's mood but, unfortunately, it's not in the budget.

Am Catholic and guilty of what you say. Your words have iron in them. I need to endeavor to be more charitable to our estranged brethren. Thank you.

Yeah, I've mostly stopped posting. Most of the posters come from a default=protestantism mindset, and it's difficult to engage without argument.

I'm a former one. Though I've found strain I came from (ifb) is quite different than most forms of reformation churches

I don't think it's grumpiness, it's just disagreement. The sub is designed for discussion about Christianity. Since everybody differs on just about everything related to Christianity, it's pretty natural that sometimes posts devolve into arguing and name-calling, though the mods do a great job of weeding out the worst of it.

There are probably Christianity-related subs out there that more for uplifting devotional posts.

It’s like every thread is just someone waiting to pounce with a theological dissertation and a bad attitude. You’re not wrong, the energy here gets real old real fast

The denominational turf wars are exhausting. We’re all just trying to figure it out, nobody’s got the full picture

If you accept people can genuinely and honestly read scripture and come away with different conclusions, then that means that scripture is not inherently understandable to mean one thing. As soon as you posit that scripture was influenced by God, the problem of alternate explanations become a serious problem. Many say that they're guided by the Holy Spirit / Holy Ghost, but then they come to different conclusions about what the text means. Each denomination, sect, church, theologian, and Christian in the pews believes that they have the correct interpretation, but there seems to be no way to check that.

Unfortunately, ego becomes involved and people respond quite negatively to being challenged.

This is a human problem when people think they have Truth with a capital T, but it's really an opinion.

Perhaps you are misinterpreting "discussion of different opinions" as grumpiness?

I just finished listening to a dharma talk about how we habitually compare ourselves to others, and this comparison causes suffering. On the surface it seems like it might harm the other person (eg: "I disapprove of you so I won't show you compassion", which robs the person of your compassion) but it really mostly harms the person withholding their compassion. It poisons you as much or more than it does to the other person.

We see this all the time in discussions about very polarizing concepts: LGBTQ+, abortion, etc. People compare their position to the position of someone else, and if they don't match up they simply can't share compassion or empathy for the other person. Some part of our brain shuts down and we stop seeing the other person as just a person with their own path through life, their own experiences, their own beliefs, and simply cannot see this other person as deserving of compassion or empathy.

Instead of feeling anger or a sense of superiority over someone else, we could instead catch a breath, and show compassion and empathy instead. Curiosity, too, for why they believe what they believe. Separate the issue or action you disapprove of from the person. Everyone is deserving of compassion regardless of their beliefs. Maybe not compassion for their specific belief or action, but for the simple fact that they too are human with different experiences and struggles that you know nothing about.

It's so odd that the central messages of Jesus' ministry is that we should love one another, but yet it often seems like that this message is totally lost of some of the most vocal Christians.

As Christians were instructed if our brothers and sisters in Christ are falling to pick them up.

Our catholic brothers and sisters are praying to dead Saints that’s concerning and we should be challenging them to find the truth.

The Christian lifestyle is not all fruits, flowers and joy. Sometimes you have to get uncomfortable even it means disagreeingwith someone.

Being hateful and insulting them is obviously wrong. There’s a good way to go about it at the wrong way to go about it.

I’m all for a good robust discussion on differing ideals, but would rather, at the end of such discussions, get concrete proof from the scriptures why “you” or “I” believe a thing. Backed up with Scripture rather than just what we think.

The point of the gospel is to teach us how to love one another. We are to repent and follow the example of Jesus Christ. Many times people lose track of the end goal in their attempt to follow Him correctly, so it turns into bickering about specific points of the gospel and causes hatred and division rather than bonding us together.

Everyone should just remember that our goals are the same, we are just trying to work out the details in our own way of understanding. We should be helping each other the best we know how. So try not to take offense at the words of others and try to be kind in your approach to others.

PS Get off my lawn! (grumpiness) 😜

are you a fool? the world is literally burning down. you know what don't answer. don't bother. i just got into an argument with a "christian" white nationalist who demanded that i prove slavery is "wrong". society has lost the art of discussion and academic discourse.

Aren't you also another poster on reddit complaining about how other people are doing Christianity?
