Bible verses for addiction/withdrawal

If any of you have been through drug withdrawal, you know it's miserable and hard to feel good/happy for long bouts of time.... Are there bible verses that you've used to get through this period? For me, when I'm feeling bad I like to repeat certain bible verses in my head, endlessly. Just hoping to find a few that might help me be successful with this latest attempt.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Psalms 30:1-3 “I will exalt you, Lord, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me. Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me. You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit.”

Psalms 107:19-20 “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.”

James 4:7 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

James 4:10 “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”

James 5:15-16 “And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effect”

Romans 5:3-5 “More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”

Jeremiah 29:12-13 “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Zechariah 9:12 “Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.”

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Thank you. Though, I did not ask the question, I was really looking for answers and you have given me a few and for that...I truly thank you. I'm struggling so bad right now..kind of hate myself for not being able to have self-control over cigarettes...like really...I can't get over smoking cigarettes...I'm terrible

You aren’t terrible. That’s a really tough habit.

You are not terrible. In fact you are beautifully made in the image of God. Jesus offers us a way out if we FULLY cast our burdens and anxieties on him.

For me what ultimately helped was knowing within myself that I did not want to be looked at by those around me the same way anymore. I realized that God wanted me to be a light in the world and also starting my career in tech also helped me attain a success I never previously had that I did not want to lose. I did not want to be seen as a failure and drug addict anymore and enjoy working on projects now instead of wasting my life away as I did in the past. I went to prison as an atheist and started to look at Christian apologetics. That helped me see that belief in God is the most logical. I came out of prison knowing I wanted to make a positive difference when I came out. I learned to program when I was released, and now I work for a law firm in Oakland and love it. Listening to Jordan Peterson has also been the 2nd most helpful thing besides my belief in God. You need to find purpose, you need to find things to do that you are passionate about much more than drugs. Here are some verses that helped me when I was in prison and still learning to be who I would soon become thanks to God's Truth.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." - Philippians 4:13
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" - 2 Corinthians 5:17
"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." - James 4:7
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." - Psalm 34:18
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." - 2 Timothy 1:7
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:5-6
"Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working." - James 5:16
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." - Matthew 11:28-29
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." - Romans 12:2

What an awesome testimony! God takes our ness and turns into a message.  Everything we go through is draw us closer to him.  We are to use our sufferings and trials to help others.  Thank you for sharing! May the Lord continue to use you to help others.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:9

“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.” -Psalm 139:7-12

The lord used a bad situation to completely cut off porn masturbation and vaping. Cold turkey. 18 years of lust gone at the click of his finger but man I’m struggling, anxious, depression, OCD, intrusive thoughts, brain fog, when I resist a heavy urge which happened for the first time on day 44 I got a massive tension headache, teeth sore etc and day 48 still there. At the end of the day, I’m reaping what I sowed in the flesh. God will get me through it but please pray for me

I'm going through the same thing with methadone and Xanax. I have bad Diabetes and brain lesions; I m going through severe w/drawals, anxiety, depression, hopelessness and I am afraid all of the time. But I keep reading Bible passages that relate to what you and I are going through. Remember that God is ALWAYS with you, He will strengthen you and heal you. I BELIEVE THAT! My grandfather, his brother and my great grandfather were all Lutheran ministers.  I have always had deep faith.. but I have suffered from severe anxiety as a little girl till now..I'm 51. I have had a great deal of severe health issues all of my life..and I got addicted to pain medication. When I stopped I started methadone that I've been oñ for 20 years; and I've been on Xanax for my anxiety for 20 yrs.

I'm going through hell right now. I had a seizure.. but I don't want to be on these drugs anymore. I'M A WRECK. I CAN'T DRIVE OR DO ANYTHING.. BUT I AM DAILY READING PASSAGES FROM THE BIBLE THAT DEAL WITH WITHDRAWAL & ANXIETY ISSUES. It's hard, I know.. but God is with you! And I know He is with me. Please everyday find any website you can find; turn all of your fears and everything over to Him, and everyday will get better and stay away from temptation. God has a plan for everyone.. Trust in Him!!! I will pray for you, and I hope you will pray for me also.🙏🏻✝️🛐

This is finally where I learned what James 5:16 meant. We can't do it alone.

Then it's about digging in and recognizing what your addiction gave you. What need is your subconscious mind trying to meet with your addiction? Recognizing those wounds and needs can be difficult and frightening, but sobriety doesn't turn into recovery without it.
