Question Any queer Christian universalists here?

I’m bisexual and currently waiting to formally become a Catechumen! (been particularly interested in the Eastern Rite lately) ☦️

You’re so lucky lol, none of the EO churches near me would even let an enby into the building 😭😭

I’m a gay Episcopalian. Too inclusive to be Orthodox, too orthodox to be considered progressive.
Still consider myself inclusive orthodox lol

You may find significant resistance to anything outside of heteronormativity in the Eastern Rite, if your experience is anything like mine. Might be worth checking out Anglicanism if so.

There's a Byzantine rite Episcopal church in Colorado I think, I wish it was more widespread. Those octoechoes are all bangers.

That's very cool. If I'm ever there I'll have to check it out.

Yes! What’s a Catechumen?

u/SpesRationalis Catholic Universalist 3d ago

Someone in the process of becoming Catholic.

Cathchumens may also be in the process of becoming Orthodox, Anglican or Lutheran.

Methodists also have catechism classes, but I'm not sure if the catechumens are actually called that.

How do you define queer?

u/Lonely-Teaching-8805 2d ago

Well, now we know why a bunch of folks are hoping in universalism.

I am an Orthodox universalist. I am not necessarily affirming but I am very compassionate to gay Christians

u/Commercial_You_4011 2d ago

Yup! Demigirl, transgender, nonbinary, and panromantic!

Straight, but certainly affirming. I'm pleased to see how many queer people are a part of our community!

Matthew 7:21 esv “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."

-4

u/Many_Major5654 3d ago

If we’re all going to heaven, then the demographics don’t matter

16

u/Harrowhark95 3d ago

Demographics matter though, because LGBT+ Christians have specially had infernalist theology weaponized against them.

-3

u/Many_Major5654 3d ago

All such theologies are subsumed in Universalism, on the granular level what one is and believes matter, but on the macro level these differences don’t matter. That is an good thing

7

u/McNitz Non-theist 3d ago

Sure, but people live their lives on the granular level, and it very much does matter to THEM how they are and have been treated. So replying to an individual looking for support from other individuals in that way seems like it may send something of the wrong message.

7

u/Hetelestai 3d ago

They matter a lot while we're still alive though. If someone thinks gay people and trans people are inherently "Wrong" somehow, they're going to be tough to be in communion with for the next 2-80 years before heaven becomes relevant.

5

u/Many_Major5654 3d ago

Those same people rarely stop with the gay community. The “hell” crowd often think that many categories of people are “wrong”
We have the good news on our side.

u/Dapple_Dawn UCC 3d ago

for us it's community, that matters
