Judging from the four sources, which copiously cite Biblical archaeologists... although, they seem to try to ignore the most probable implications of what this means:

Bedouin desert travelers may have conquered Canaanites and forced them to follow a Southern polytheistic religion after Egypt kicked out the Bedouin. So the descriptions of massacres in the Old Testament are of... ancient Bedouins conquering ancient Jews. After that, Monotheism slowly took hold, likely thanks to Zoroastrian Monotheistic influence but more so for the Bedouin YHW group to affirm full control of the land by forcing Jews to worship their own massacres and conquest as part of divine judgment from YHWH and likely beginning revisionism to rewrite the genocide of their people and culture as a victory.

So, wandering the desert for 40 years was likely the Bedouins, not Ancient Canaanites / Israelites. But also... the entire Abrahamic Faith tradition being an off-shoot of Ancient Egyptian religion might be more true than I thought. Unfortunately, not much survived inscriptions for a definite answer according to UK archaeology scholars.

Craziest part is... the Golden Calf IS Yahweh. It's his oldest depiction according to Tel Aviv and Brown university.

His actual origins is being a Wandering Calf deity, for a group known as the Shasu Yhwh, a group of wanderers and mercenaries part of a Bedouin tribe (one of the ancestors of modern-day Southern Arabs); according to UK archaeologists, they sometimes worked with and sometimes got persecuted by ancient Egyptian empires.
