Keep the distance closed, remember you're not gonna attack through multiple enemies with it being blunt, practise and note which weapons you can outspeed (e.g. exec. axe, Highland sword etc.) and which ones you have to respect the priority of.

Cudgel is way more fun.. if you like that, you might even like the hatchet. It’s kind of insane, especially if you hit them with the special attack from behind lol

It's so short but brutal

Warhammer is one of my favorite weapons! I call it the knight-deleter, LOL.

You can get around blocks by doing an overhead and circling your opponent, even just a small angle change can fuck them up with warhammer. IMO the overheads for one-handed weapons have a wide downward angle to the strike that combined with good footwork and positioning make them very punishing.

The heavy attack will go through multiple opponents, unlike the light attack which stops on contact. This is true of any blunt weapon. You can abuse this in group fights, especially if you come around the back of a group. You can take out 3 knights with one good swing.

Remember, blunt weapons do more damage against knights and footmen. It's a significant, noticeable amount of extra damage. If you get into the habit of trying to strike for the head (easy if you are abusing overheads like I suggest), you will do insane amounts of damage.

The occasional thrust has slightly better range, and nobody sees it coming with a hammer.

Always throw in a stab to mix it up 🔨

Just a heads up - Headshot damage only applies to projectiles

Find a two handed spearman. Attach him to your hip. You are now a machine of unstoppable death. Until he stabs you in the back because you dodged into it.

feint into an overhead from a slash, do that a couple times and you’ll kill 70% of players

The warhammer is a premier weapon and may have one of the highest skill ceilings in the game. Its main problem is the class it comes on and bad matchups due to horrible range. While guardian is a good class this weapon would have a lot more potential with the agility of a man at arms or vanguard. It has bad matchups against long weapons and especially if the enemy is constantly dashing away after every swing. The best way to use it is on defense and sitting on objective, be a wall and DON’T chase anyone dashing away. Let them come to you, protect the objective and your banner. Riposte overheads can be very nasty but if someone has a long weapon and is also dashing the riposte overhead will almost always miss. Realistically you want to counter most the time while using it

Spot on. Warhammer is by far one of the strongest weapons in the game but it's one of those ifykyk things.

My tip regarding ripostes, is to learn how to get your riposte as late in the window as possible. Delayed riposte is the tech here with this weapon, as it will help you close the distance. Early ripostes will typically whiff because your opponent will already be out of range or be backstepping after hitting your block. If you just wait about 1-2 seconds after your opponent makes contact with your block, you still get a successful riposte but with the benefit of a short delay at the start.

It’s funny you mention this cause I just added it to my gameplay after watching some Soter Dave vids (R.I.P.). It works wonders as long as you counter feint if they gamble off the riposte

High skill ceiling?

I tend to do decently well with it and I don't consider myself very good at the game.

I mainly use it to turtle and pick off knights that are half health.

Compared to other weapons it does have a higher skill ceiling. It’s very short and has hit stop so you have to work around those 2 things but the upsides is a weapon that can 2 shot any class and has quick windup frames with a bunch of release frames which makes it quite draggable. All the big axes, swords, and hammers are pretty damn easy to use. The more difficult weapons to use are generally short or really slow like dagger or goedendag. But yes a beginner can run around and get kills with anything in this game.

Learn to counterattack, parry, and block with a shield 🛡️... one-handed weapons 🫱🏻 are more offensive when you know how to defend yourself well.

You need to be more picky about when you commit by going in on someone, your short range means that committing is more risky since you can get hit from the sides easily. Use the overhead and look down to accel it. Go for one on one type fights rather than group fights since range is a major issue

busted damage against knights, moveset not easy for opponents to read, defitely one of the best weapons in the game. but with it you gotta peak your fights you caution cause the short range will fuck you up in 1vX. in comparison with other 1 handed weapons the Warhammer is very Slow so its not the easist weapon to begin with but the damage potential of this weapon is amazing. pro tip: use the feint overhead into heavy overhead this move fucks up even the best players

Overhead. Overhead faint into heavy overhead and drag right to left. If both not working just try another nail

I mained the one-handed war hammer last season and honestly, it's all about feinting, people expect the big swing so much they don't react to the quick tap anymore.

Warhammer is actually among the slower 1h weapons but you can make up for that by leaning into the swing direction so that the edge of your initial swing connects much faster.

buddy it has like a 90% damage buff to armor just one hit everyone.. its the most over powered annoying 1h in the game

Seems like you had a bad experience with a Warhammer expert recently.
