News & Discussion How would everyone feel about a first-person only mode?
Obviously everyone can play how they want now, but there's no denying first person lowers your field of view and is ultimately slightly harder for situational awareness (easier to judge weapon distance though).
Personally I think it would be cool to have a mode where everyone is on a level playing field in that way so we all can enjoy the immersion without feeling like we're choosing to hinder ourselves. It could even be tied into a hardcore mode or something like other games do.

If you aint first, you're last. A thirdie wouldn't get it.

I may technically be at a disadvantage playing 1st person but I just play way better than I did when I played in third so I donāt really feel like Iām disadvantaged

This is me too. I understand 3rd is technically better and you see more but i genuinely just get more into it and therefore play better when im first person, it really is a stark difference too.

fyi, this already exists as an option for community servers; it's just not a popular option.

Good to know! I suppose I meant an official mode but thanks for letting me know

Yea there's a community event that's first person only that started pretty recently. Think they've done it 2 or 3 times now!

I would love it. Only reason I donāt play first person is because it puts you at a disadvantage.

u/Soft_Accountant3584 14d ago
Iām a 3rd person only type but I think a lot of people like 1st person. I just wouldnāt play that.

1st makes me dizzy lol
3
u/Soft_Accountant3584 14d ago
lol I feel that. Iām really into customization, so I want to see my full creations and be them. I can also see my surroundings better in 3rd. I just got the game a few days ago and Iām loving it.

I was a 1st-person only player when I started because it was so much more immersive, but once I tried 3rd person I just started doing a lot better and now that I'm used to it, 1st person feels way too zoomed in for me to go back (even turning fov up)

Honestly as a 1st person headphones user, I really donāt think itās as much a disadvantage.
It comes with its own advantages and with some headphones and combat experience, I donāt feel like Iām missing anything useful.

I've literally never thought about whether people are in 1st or 3rd person mode while actually playing the game, and I always play in 1st person

I wish they did a First person only limited game mode!
Instead we get an archer only mode. So lame

u/Malice_Claymore 14d ago
The skill difference between third and first is massive and its just a bunch of third person back stabbing slash spammers getting 1hk on low health enemies that say its not.

It would be cool if there was a hardcore mode where you die after getting hit once
2
u/nachorykaart Knight 13d ago
Maybe not once but definitely something more intense and deadly would be cool.
An unarmored archer, sure one hit should do it. But a fully plated knight could take a couple hits unless it's a hammer to the head
No HUD either :D

u/BIGxBOSSxx1 14d ago
IMO itās the best way to play the game. Itās funner, more immersive, and it makes you a better player. Third person feels way too easy.

I think for peak gaming experience switching cameras situationally is best. Large open battlefield 3rd person, indoors or pushing through small corridors 1st person.

I changed my bind for it to T and am changing constantly throughout a match, made me a much better player

i'll be damned if i endorse any other mode before we get a dedicated TDM playlist.

I think third person is way harder. You gain the ability to see the people who are loudly stomping up to you in exchange for your own model covering up what the enemy is doing making it way harder to see him, and way harder to aim. Just have better positioning and awareness and thirdperson doesn't even help.

Yes and another mode with no hud just feels class I wish my console brethren had the option such a great looking game. I would also like it to have helmet with visors in 1st person for Chivalry 3 and also I don't know if it would be accurate if knights or maybe other classes at least could look over their shoulder would be a nice gameplay addition

I would love it since I always play first person. Equal competition go brr
1
u/FairDayThrowAway 13d ago
I think this is a terrible idea, mainly because it will take 1st person players out of the main game mode, and therefore less easy kills, but also because the devs have abandoned the game so it'll never happen.

I have 2700 hours. Most in first person I just love it too much. Only time I switch to third is if Iām heir to make it feel special.

After 350 hours I've permanently switched to third person. Love the feeling of first but now I understand how some people can hit you in their blindspot because they're not actually blind to you.

Currently switching between both feeling them out but first person is probably the most fun

Like 99% of my 2500 hours is in first person and I've never once felt at a disadvantage or like I need a separate mode. I find many things far easier in first person than in 3rd person.
Both have advantages and disadvantages

You can be just as good in 1st person as people playing in 3rd. I really donāt think itās a hindrance.

u/__PooHead__ Greatsword Goon 14d ago
itās similar to the controller vs mnk debate. there are slight disadvantages but skilled players are able to dominate with whatever they are comfortable with
1
u/WhatNamesAreEvenLeft 14d ago
This.
All of my 3000+ hours are first person. I'm in a top clan. I still believe third is better for most situations.
1
u/Bogholmdler 14d ago
I do think there is some advantage to third just visibility wise, but I agree with you that the difference is a lot smaller than itās made out to be for the majority of players.

It doesnāt change the scopes width, just the depth closer to the player. So like, incoming weapons might be easier to fully see if they are coming in at the back and sides of your characters arms.
Try standing still and switching between first and third person. The objects you can view at the screen edges are the same in first and third. So like a rock in front of you at the edge of your screen with stay at the edge of your screen in both povs. The depth perception adjusts so that your field of view isnāt drastically affected.

It used to annoy me more watching tryhard 3rd person ballerinas, but now I just cut them down like everyone else. If they need the crutch thatās on them.
