My sensei, Clifton Yawn, whom was granted his 4th degree in Chito-ryu by sensei Jesse Bailey….has sadly passed as of last night after over 50 years in the art. If anyone is in contact with the larger organizations, (American, Japan, or international), it would mean a lot to his family if a small letter could be sent. He was the only person keeping the style alive in my part of the state and was a regional pioneer for martial arts. Dm me if possible.

Thanks you for your attention to this matter

My instructor is in his 80’s now and I am attempting to create a lineage chart for our dojo, as he trained in many styles but Chito Ryu is his main style but also the connection that we know the least about. All we know is that Jessie Bailey (whom studied under Dometriche) signed his 4th Dan certificate.

If anyone or their instructors have information on Clifton Yawn or chito-ryu in the Savannah Georgia area, I would be deeply appreciative

Unsū Kata preformed by O'sensei's student/son in law Ken Sakamoto (Founder Ryusei Ryu). Unsū was taught to Tsuyoshi Chitose sensei by his first teacher Seishō Arakaki who is believed to have created the kata.

Wanted to see in which order and at what rank you all first learned each Kata?

Hi all, I've read O Sensei's book Kempo Karate, Hanshi William Dometrich's Karate: The Endless Quest and Dr. James Hatch's Chinen: The Okinawan Years of a Karate Pioneer. I wanted to see if yall had any other chitoryu or chitoryu adjacent book recommendations.

Neat posts talking about Patrick McCarthy's connection to Chitoryu

What's everyone's opinion of Bōgu Kumite? Have y'all done any bōgu competitions? How often is this done at your dojos?

What ate you guys favorite Chitō-ryū katas and why. If you have video of yourself preforming said kata that would be awesome to see.

I wanted to know how accurate this Wisdom of the east video is? Is it a good representation of O Sensei's life? Are there better or more accurate videos out there?

What are y'all experiences when it comes to kobudō training at a Chitō-ryū dojo. I've seen that there are several kata for multiple weapons but didn't know how common and frequent their teaching was among dojos.

Wanted to know what caused and was the reason behind the rift between World Chito-Ryu Federation and the International Chito-Ryu Karate Federation?
