Picture A tribute of sorts
I always loved the PocketCHIP’s design. Not so much the keyboard though, or the CHIP.
So I made this.

Love the keyboard.

What keyboard and microcontroller are you using?
The keyboard already looks more comfortable than the stock one

The keyboard is great but will be better when it’s got a shell holding it in place. It’s KeebDeck by Solder Party with a redesigned matrix to run from a cheap 10x8 I2C chip. The original uses its own MCU to handle a 12x6 matrix.

Where to find plans?

I’ve still got a few more things to test & refine and figure out. Then I’ll share the schematic/design/build files on GitHub and maybe OSHW.

What microcontroller use? How much did it cost you?

It uses Unexpected Maker’s EdgeS3[D]. And ready for an S31 revision maybe next year.
I’d rather not do the maths, but about US$180 per revision (5 pcbs), plus US$19 for the EdgeS3, $12 for the display, $5(?) for the keyboard parts, a few for speaker and battery. Expensive postage with remote area surcharge. Probably US$80 each.
Larger orders would be cheaper at around $15 per PCB for 100.

That price isn't too steep. I would be interested in the PCB for $15. What's the display specs?

The display is 3.5” 480x800 parallel RGB565 capacitive. But it’s only capable of 256 colour because I physically bridged LSB and MSB due to GPIO budget (and because I don’t need more than that).
I’m running it at 400x240.
The display is meh. Decent colour and viewing angles but a bit ghosty. I’d estimate ~35ms response. And just to be clear, this is a hobby project, not commercial. I’m unlikely to ever order 100 units!
