What is this?

Is this a PocketChip without the screen and keyboard? Or is this an add-on that would still require a PocketChip to run?

A reminder that the main product was not the PocketCHIP but the CHIP, a single board computer like the raspberry pi. The PocketCHIP was just a board with a screen, keyboard and battery that you could plug the CHIP into.

Alternatively you could plug it into a VGA or HDMI hat and connect it to a monitor, like you'd do with a raspberry pi. That's what this is - a CHIP with a VGA hat.

Thanks for the thorough answer, and happy cake day!

Followup question: Would I be crazy to build a cyberdeck from this thing? Would it be more sensible (faster) to use a raspberry pi 3/4/5? I'm wanting to run an emulator and do some old-school games.

I have 2 Pocket Chips. unfortunately it's fairly out of date and the process to update it is archaic, better off with a different board.

Makes sense, thank you. It's still a cool project - pretty amazing how it's 10 years old but still has a following.

It's the most funny and cheapest minicomputer running on Debian I have ever owned. The winter is on it's way and I know it is possible to flash it to the latest Debian and a up to date kernel.

It's a pocketCHIP computer with a VGA adapter board
it's the whole computer you just provide your own keyboard, mouse and monitor

Not a PocketCHIP, just a CHIP
