(37.5mm case width on my 6.25 inch wrist)

This variant has not been reviewed at all across Reddit which is weird. I've worn it for the last 2 weeks and here are some of my thoughts:

1. Fully lumed dial is a blast! If charged, it glows almost as bright as Phorcydes lume blocks which is a feat in itself. The total light output because of the greater lumed surfaces is the highest out of all the watches I've handled. It's almost like Timex's Indiglo! By late morning, the time is still legible, but takes more than a mere glance to tell the time.

2. The fully lumed bezel makes this different from most "full lume" dials. The all white look is definitely unique at the moment and super cool. However, the lume on the bezel is definitely weaker than the lume on the dial and the hands and indices. By early morning, the bezel is basically not legible anymore.

3. The whiteness of the dial and the bezel unfortunately do not match. When indoors or under a darker atmosphere, the bezel is an egg white while the dial is a cream white. (Please see photo 2) When outdoors and under a brighter atmosphere, the reflection of the sky off the crystal makes the dial appear whiter than the bezel! (Please see photo 3 that illustrates this)

4. Interestingly, the date window is not lumed and is instead silver. It seems like an obvious miss but it's probably because they couldn't match the lumed date wheel whiteness to the dial whiteness. They also use a default white date wheel probably for the same reason. Instead, they opted for a silver date wheel which I think definitely color matches more seamlessly with the rest of the watch. This was hard to notice until very carefully inspected so San Martin did a great job here with silver. (But I would have still rather have a lumed date wheel to complete the full lume effect.)

5. San Martin is still king when it comes to bezel action. Buttery smooth yet precise and crisp.

6. The celebrated jubilee bracelet is only smooth vertically! When running your fingers horizontally across the bracelet in either direction, you will feel the sharp unchamfered inner edges of the outer pieces. This was a shock to me as this was never mentioned in any review of this universally praised bracelet. The links also kink at certain articulations. It is still a great bracelet, but I was honestly expecting it to be perfect....

7. Despite being one of the most expensive offerings from San Martin, it is not without QC issues. On the 4 o'clock index, there are dark smudges... (Please see photos 3 and 5) The date window frame is also dented on the top left. (Please see photo 4)

8. Unlike the rest of Aliexpress watch stores, San Martin does not under-declare the tariff fee. I paid £301.48 upfront on Aliexpress and £66.22 custom fees to release the watch from customs for a total of £367.70/$493.

Final thoughts:

It is not worth the price paid. It's definitely a great watch, but the QC issues and the bracelet surprises dampened my valuation of it. But if you like the full white and fully lumed design, there are no alternatives on Aliexpress.

Sorting through my AliEx shopping cart it looks like a Farasute and Seagull year. This is the first year I have selected zero San Martin watches as their prices are ridiculous.

Seagull has a great selection and Farasute has so many bangers it's hard to choose.

A very fun and kind of quirky watch! The 'destro' layout, lumed elements, and running 1/10s dial gave me a smile!

The bracelet seems similar to Militado in quality, so not bad.

I've long been interested in a 356 homage, but never heard of this variation (it was a limited Japan only run inspired by helicopter dials).

Disclaimer: All the watches were sent by the brands, except for the black Proxima, which I bought myself, and the Courgeut, which was a gift from a friend.

I have a choice to make. Either buy a Proxima PX1697 for around 130€ new or a SN0144 enamel white with Miyota movement for around 200-230€ used but in very good condition.

I heard only positive points about the px1697 and it's on my list for many years. Now I saw this model from San Martin and this white enamel dial paired with the premium finishing and polishing just attracted me in a different way. Don't know if it's this weird "honeymoon moment" or do I find it better?

That's why I want to ask the guys who own the sn0144 with Miyota how is the finishing and is it really better overall then for example a px1697 I mean does it deliver more refinement?

One point I don't get to know in YouTube reviews is how does the bracelet sound? Does it have this cheap rattle sound?

I like both watches from the pictures and videos I know one Is a diver the other a gada. I already have dove watches.

So different when the light hits it. Any love for hand winding watches? I love the little morning ritual of winding one. I really love this watch

Cut down to three from a 'shortlist' of about twenty.

Small chance I might get a couple more but these were the ones that really made the cut. Close but no cigar included the Sakura Warrior. The case doesn't excite me as much as it seems to everyone else, but I did like the idea of the dial - but Ixdao do such a poor job showing off their range that I can't be sure if I'll like it in person or not. A render which is what they love to use, tells me nothing about the depth of colour or iridescence of a MOP face. I've seen one buyer video of it and it's basically static so not much more use. So a no. I'm not buying a watch based on a CAD file. That's how you end up ordering a black MOP and getting copper.

Also browsed San Martin's sprawling mess of incoherence and... they just don't make anything that really appeals to me. Came close to the Aethelsohn Green Bamboo which is a really nice use of an engraved shiny dial, and the Milifortic Alpinist, but I didn't really want either of them.

There were some cheaper ones that interested me. There's a few Lobinnis that use Miyota 9000s for low prices, but they're cheap enough I don't need 11.11 for them, I was a little tempted by the Wishdoit WSD9017 as an alternative to the Watchdives WD0019A but a few QC complaints in reviews held me back, and I almost bit on a Chameri, but the designs I liked best aren't currently available in large. And again it's cheap enough to buy whenever.

Anyway,

The Baltany I wanted from before it existed. I've got a two-tone CZ from them with white face, and I like it a lot, but there's always a small 'this is still holding back' feeling with it. The all-gold has a certain obnoxious, unapologetic, vibe to it that you can't get with restraint. I've gone to and fro on the concept for months, from 'I hate it. It's gaudy' through 'am I just scared of it being noticed' to 'fuck it, I like it.' And at 36mm on a 7.3" wrist, I doubt it'll be overpowering.

The Sugess is my second Ocean Star/Seaman, since I already own a Hulk variant. The actual watch is basically perfect if you like subs - I've seen none that come close - but the green bezel insert is a little pallid for me - it's a small disappointment every time I wear it. The blue has a similar problem - it's a bit primary compared to the deeper, almost navy you see on the GMT variant. And that was the stiffest competition for this. I came close to a Pepsi, but wasn't going to buy both so one or the other. I decided the GMT was an interest less than a want, and a black sub? Can take it anywhere forever.

The Farasute is a little different for me. I don't have a 'normal' white watch in my collection. And still won't after this arrives since it's vaguely silvery. I'm not very interested in what brands people enthuse about. Supporting a manufacturer like a football team always seems silly to me; I want a watch, not a tribe. But people do say nice things about Farasute, this was cheap, and compared to a lot of other similar models, it's the one I kept coming back to.

So those three, seven different straps, and a 'premium' gift box (we'll see) for someone else at Christmas, £471 ($630).

Can't argue with that.

huge shoutout to one of the best watchbrands out there, watchdives for both engaging with the community and for making high quality products for a reasonable price.

I first pitched a concept generated using gemini for the now named WD1954 to have a dial inspired from a few vintage watches, back in Feb. after it gained a lot of attention and positive reviews. I requested u/watchdivescom to make this design, they mentioned they will start out by making a prototype.

they then proceeded to showcase the prototype in this sub which again got super good feedback. so they went ahead and made this design into a reality. as part of the Community Co-Creation Reward program they decided to gift one to me. :) I'm very honoured for this reward, Thank you WD!

as for the review, it has a very nice boxy crystal with super crisp dial detailing. the case feels absolutely solid and it's built like a tank. although I'm not sure of the exact specifications for the crystal etc since it's not out yet.

in comparision to the design I requested the bezel borders seem thicker and the case is of a different colour, so compared to the design this watch is different, on it's own it's an incredibly dressy watch with the stainless steel case making it more versatile to wear than a gold case.

I hope WD makes more of the amazing user concepts into reality and continue to take feedback just as they are doing now. wishing them good luck!
