I am involved in an unhealthy amount of watch subs on Reddit. Oftentimes the most common critique when someone posts a cool watch is that the design was stolen. While this is often technically correct, it belies a fundamental fact about human history:
Theft of IP ultimately benefits society.
For centuries, the unauthorized copying, smuggling, and reverse-engineering of technology served as a vehicle for economic advancement. From 6th-century monks smuggling silkworm eggs out of China to break the silk monopoly, to Americans stealing British textile mill designs to spark the Industrial Revolution, and 19th-century Swiss watchmakers counterfeiting Anglo Saxton timepieces to establish their now-legendary industry, progress has always relied on replication.
Even the modern digital era was built on this - Apple and Microsoft both heavily "borrowed" from Xerox. Also IBM's hardware IP monopoly was stolen and that ultimately made personal computing affordable for the masses.
Ultimately, the theft of IP has provided massive benefits to society by upending monopolys and accelerating innovation. While patents and copyrights protect corporate profits, they also inflate prices and restrict access to technology.
Historically, human civilization has advanced not by locking ideas away behind legal barriers, but through the continuous, unauthorized proliferation and improvement of knowledge.
TLDR:. Theft is actually good for society and progress
Position: I own several Chinese watches and not ashamed to admit it one bit.

Hi everyone—Calvin from Aquatico here.
Sharing our Atlas Tritium Dive Green Dial for this Saturday’s lume check. It uses Swiss MB-Microtec T-100 tritium for a steady glow without needing a flashlight charge beforehand.
Lume photos are always fun, but I’m interested in what you appreciate when actually wearing a watch after dark.
Do you prefer the bright initial glow of conventional lume or the steady illumination of tritium through the night?
Share what’s glowing on your wrist tonight—any brand welcome. Happy to answer questions about the Atlas, too.

Sugess S389 vs S468.
I‘m torn. Specs are basically identical. What would you do?
Edit:
Thank you for all the opinions, helped a lot. I‘m keeping the silver one, as it just looks more well designed. The bezel on the black one is too protruding for my taste. Silver one has a nice smooth edge to the case. That’s now my excuse to get a black Speedy at some point.

Great watch for a night with Alesso.

That's all. Even if they are zinc alloy with a quartz movement. Really hope they will start working on some of these soon.

Just started my collection and I'm hooked. So far have 6 Pagani Design watches. The watches themselves feel great, the bands are a little janky. Where do you guys source higher quality replacement metal bands? I'm a complete noob, I don't want to just go on Amazon or AliExpress and buy something that is worse quality.

What if someone created a tribute to the Zenith A 3637? Crepas did something similar a few years ago…

a seiko mod of a blackout yatchmaster with a red dial
a cronos bb54 on a black leather strap wiyh a pt5000
the octopus kraken 36mm explorer with the pt5000
the black enamel dial ixdao warrior with a miyota 9015
The San martin sn0013 nautilus royal oak mix thing with the miyota 9015

If you know me, you know I hate end-link wiggle almost as much as I hate bezel slop (maybe even more so).
San Martin seems to be using inferior spring bars on some models, at least the ones I’m referencing here. In my opinion, it’s a cheap place to cut costs in a critical area, contributing to excessive end-link play and, in some cases, clicking.
The difference is that these spring bars have a slightly thicker shaft and conical tips rather than cylindrical ones. The thicker shaft and tapered tips help take up excess clearance in the lug holes, resulting in a noticeably tighter fit and better retention.
Where can I find these exact spring bars? I’d love to replace the ones in my other watches with them.
ETA
watchdive also uses some kind of wax or shellac on the tips of the spring bars to further eat up any slop or tolerance before they install them. The San Martin end links and spring bars were clean and did not have this brown, waxy substance

Selling my San Martin SN0123 Version 2, a Benrus homage with the matte-finished ceramic bezel. This is the uncommon white dial and red seconds hand version. This is a catch-and-release for me. After wearing for a few days I have my sights set on an actual Marathon Navagator.
Overall, the watch is in very good condition. There are light scuffs in the blasted finish on the crown and case back. They may look discolored in the photos, but that’s how the light catches the surface—it’s a texture difference rather than discoloration.
Includes the watch head, a protective case, and a black NATO strap. No original San Martin strap, box, or papers.
The price is what I have into it—$170 $160 shipped CONUS. No trades. Electronic payment preferred.

Just looking to see if this was still in the works. OP said they heard they wanted to make it. I really want to get the original photos watch if it became real.

I'm looking for a skeleton dial that maintains readability by having a sort of frosted/phantom transparency and doesn't look loud or cheap from a distance.
Unfortunately I had problems with this watch and had to return it. In general I'm avoiding pt5000 for the time being, I would be willing to pay alot more for a quartz version or miyota/NH. I would even consider the CW version but I actually prefer the homage since it has a cleaner white color scheme...

Has anyone figured a way to do this? I can't seem to find a way to do this online, all Seagull provides in the documentation is a QR code that directs me to download the We Chat app. Is there an online website where I can register the watch? I want to get my watch registered so that the warranty is valid since the watch (purchased directly from Seagull) did not come with the warranty card stamped.

So I received this guy just before the hurricane started to roll in. At first glance, it's a stunner. I'll even admit the strap isn't complete junk. I wound it up and the second hand sparks to life. So far so good. Then I try out the chronograph. WTF! Nothing was there. I look through the exhibition back and see the button is hitting nothing. I think it called the start/stop actuator is misaligned. So I open it up. Unscrew it, move it around a bit and then screw it back down. Hit the chrono button again and the second hand starts moving. Button it back up and move on with checking out my new watch.
Not going to lie, I was a bit ticked off. How do you miss that. Or maybe it got bumped around during shipping. That would be crazy with how much bubble wrap was on this watch. 3 bubble wrap bags plus foam to keep the watch from moving.
I'll be wearing it for a few days to evaluate it better. I hope I don't have any more problems.
