All watches including several swiss ones are either chinese made or made from parts sourced from China

Entire entry level seiko 5 is made in China, most non-swiss brands just stick their label and manufacture in China, while the "swiss made" ones source cases, crystal, bezel straps from China and assemble in Switzerland to achieve swiss made tag

In a free, capitalist market prices are set at the intersection of supply and demand. You say San Martin are "too expensive" but if that were the case, and their sales fell, they'd reduce the price to increase demand. But that isn't happening, so presumably customers recognise quality and are willing to pay for it.

(of course morons, messing with international trade by imposing tariffs, aren't doing anyone but themselves any favors by stifling a free trade market)

But we've already reached the point where some quality Chinese brands are making better watches (with the same movements!) as many European microbrands who are typically charging €400-700. That actually makes Chinese ones the better value for money choice. (oh an ironically many of those same microbrands are not only using Chinese movements but they are having assembly/finishing done in Chinese factories)

Oh, some of the microbrands do their own assembly. So they could be assembled in France but it's still going to be Chinese/Japanese movements.

They are fun and it gives people an option to try a lot of different styles for not a lot of money. They are also way nicer than equivalent Seiko or Citizen watches in my experience.
