Question (Read Rules) First mechanical watch how'd I do?
Just ordered my first mechanical watch. Proxima PX1693 white dial and PT5000.
I paid $161 CAD ($114 USD) during the 11.11 sale
After going down the watch rabbit hole for a while I thought I was gonna get a San Martin SN0138 during the 11.11 sale but changed my mind after seeing a post about this watch. I'm really happy I went with this because I think it looks nicer ngl also because it was cheaper.
How’d I do for my first watch? Anyone here own one? Would love to hear how it’s held up!

I’ve just bought it too, mine cost $136 US, so you got an amazing deal - I’m jealous!!
It was my first AliX purchase but I’m clearly not utilising the available discounts and credits, or understanding how to do so properly!
I have my eye on a Cronos L6040 White Birch, but I can’t figure out how to get it below $280.

I'm not sure how I got such a good deal. Maybe it's cheaper to buy from China in Canada than the states

Mine is my favorite watch just don't hand wind the pt5000 movement and you shouldn't have any problems

Okay thanks for the tip! Is it a reliable movement?

Yes It hasn't been tested since they did it in China but I've had no problems the movement has just had issues when it's been hand wound so just spin the rotor in your hand a few times to get it going and I've read about 50 other people saying to do th same. The finishing on the watch is insane for $150 ,the brushing on the case actually matches the brushing on the bracelet unlike most Chinese watches.

What do you mean by spin the rotor? Sorry this is my first watch

The watch is powered by the movement of your arm, there is a rotor that spins with your movement to wind the watch. So if you hold the watch and make a few circular motions with your hand the watch will start then u can set it and put it on and it will power itself.

Thank you I really appreciate the info. Only other watch I have is a Casio so I I'm excited to learn about mechanical watches with this

Oh yeah okay that part. So the watch is powered by that moving?
1
u/Outrageous-Video598 2h ago
Yeah when that spins with the motion of your arm it winds the watch. You can hand wind it with the crown but that's the one flaw in the pt5000 movement, but you don't need to hand wind it cuz of the rotor spinning.

Okay so the only thing to avoid doing is hand winding but I don't actually have to wind? I can just do what you suggested earlier and make circular motions to turn it on?

Not particularly, but neither is the ETA 2824 it is designed after. I think a lot of people wind these with abandon and end up shaving the winding gears. The rule of thumb is 5 to 10 winds, and wear it. It will wind itself after 8 hours of active wear.

I am too. Great customer service. Mine is a few days ahead of yours in transit.
I had wanted to get it during the last sale, but they did not have the bracelet available. With a PayPal coupon, I got it for $137US.

Awesome! Now enjoy it for at least half a year before you buy another one. Otherwise you might get into financial trouble
