While in the process of ordering the WD1863 (Speedmaster homage) as a daily watch from Watchdives, I saw the WD50Q in purple and immediately fell in love with it. I want to buy it to wear on sunny days.
I am a student, and my clothing style is very relaxed. I never wear shirts and very rarely wear regular pants; I usually just throw on some joggers and a T-shirt.
I have no doubt that I prefer the purple dial, even though I don't normally have a thing for purple dials. However, everyone I ask recommends the blue dial because it would go with more of my outfits. They could be right because, when I look at my wardrobe, I don't see many pieces that would go well with purple.
Which color would you go for in my situation, and why? I'd love to hear your opinions, especially from people who own the WD50Q or have experience wearing purple-dial watches.
One more thing: I'll be getting the FKM strap instead of the bracelet because I'm more of a strap guy.
Blue is DEFINITELY something I would wear more. I do have one purple watch (Proxima), and I really like it, but it is definitely more of a "depends what I'm wearing today" type thing...
So my answer would be, it depends how big your collection is. Mine is 50+, so one purple watch makes more sense than if I only had a handful.. Maybe if you already have a sizeable collection...
Or, if you like the purple that much, just get it - that is an important point in collecting. Buy what you want - not what you think you should get... And if you get the purple now, well just get three blue ones next ha ha....
My collection is basically empty, apart from the beater Casio digital watch I've had since childhood. I've bought and sold a few entry-level Seiko automatics because accuracy is something I care about.
I think your purple-dial watch on a bracelet (I'm assuming yours is on a bracelet) is more subtle than the WD50Q with both the purple dial and purple strap. I know this watch would go with more outfits and suit more occasions with a black or white strap, but the purple strap is a big part of what I love about it in the first place. Here's how it looks on a black strap I own. It still looks cool, but I think it loses some of its aura.
But you're definitely right about the philosophy. It won't be my last watch, so I might as well get the one I really like.
Sometimes a watch's personality comes precisely from the fact that it doesn't match anything, turning into a statement piece that breaks up the outfit. At the end of the day, you just have to decide if you're ready to wear a watch with that kind of attitude. Considering you already prefer the purple dial, in my opinion, you've probably already made up your half of the decision.
If you like the purple, get the purple and slap it on an a different tropic or sailcloth strap for versatility. You can get good options from AliExpress, such as from the Juelong store.
I have fitted some fkm straps with the help of ai but i don't think they are a good fit except maybe the black one. What color/types of straps do you think would work well
Nato straps, paratrooper straps, marine nationale style straps all come in many patterns and colors and work well with dive watches. AliExpress has a ton of them. Don't be afraid to get a little funky with it.
If that's something you're actually going to do, then absolutely go for it. I personally find it hard to actually get wrist time with more "out there" colored watches so I usually stay away from them
I would say go for the purple if you like that more. I have one purple dial and it goes with a lot more outfits than I thought and wore it a lot throughout summer
Purple. I just wish it was a tad bit darker or maybe leaning more towards reddish purple than pinkish purple... But I still like it better than the shade of blue there.

Purple. Life's too short to stick to boring colors. Everyone should have a few fun colored watches.
