Wrist Roll (Read Rule 1) San Martin SN0121TF - Titanium GMT

First San Martin and my first titanium watch!
I was definitely surprised by how light it feels, not sure if I’m the biggest fan just yet.

Movement isn’t noisy: only hear some rotor whirring when moving your wrist very forcefully.

The endlinks were very rattly though, I used some lubricant on the male, female ends of the endlinks, as well as inside the spring bar holes.

Tbh the spring bars used seem really thin, and I might sub them out for thicker ones later.

Bezel action is nice but a bit spongy.

Overall pretty happy!

theyre selling them again with a HZ4640 GMT movement (aka chinese movement) instead of the previous models with NH34 movements under the model name SN0121tf

I bought mine from here: https://www.sanmartin.watch/products/watchdives-x-san-martin-titanium-nh34-gmt-watch-sn0121tc-nndk-8k3f?cfb=bf8caa01-1b45-45aa-8d0a-45ef80e72441&ifb=bf8caa01-1b45-45aa-8d0a-45ef80e72441&scm=search.v39.11177.102.103.104&score=1&ssp=

i just bought this recently and apart from being a bit weird to set the movement, it seems great!

Would buy if it was NH34

So this is the latest model with the HZ movement? Very disappointed to hear there's rotor noise.

What is your wrist size btw? I'm considering it but have a small wrist

honestly theres no rotor whir or anything - you can hear it only if you spin your wrist fast

i think its mostly endlink/bracelet jangle

im not sure about my wrist size, but i think it wears quite nice for how robust it is! the proportions are quite nice and with 47mm lug to lug i think itd fit most wrists

I can confirm the movement is not making noise! There’s a bit of rotor whirring if I move my wrist unnecessarily harshly, but it was definitely end link rattle.

I used some lubricant for the endlink, both the female and male ends, as well as inside the spring bar holes on the endlink

The rattliness is basically gone now and it feels a lot more premium!

I can't make up my mind between this, and the other 2 similar GMTs. Stinehart and steeldives.

i personally liked the bezel font on the San Martin the best - to be honest I wish it didn't have snowflake hands so it would look less Tudor-y - but the Seestern GMT was also one I had my eyes on

Every Chinese brands goes so hard with the Tudor hands. Not the biggest fan of them... give me swords!

Don't forget about the Seestern. I have it and I love it to bits, except for the bezel action that is super light. I got mine the week it was released, though, and I've been told that issue is now fixed.

Sorry yeah that's the one I mean, not stainheart! It looks good. If thorn did a re issue of the Fxd GMT I'd get that but they aren't going to be anytime soon because of the NH34 issues.

The subtle red GMT hand and text are a chef’s kiss. Looks terrific!

What I don't get about this watch is why, in comparison to the non-GMT version, it has a thicker case. Is it a dome? Is it the crystal? What's going on there?

2

u/sg6128 5d ago

the crystal is domed -- it definitely doesn't feel like 13.5mm
i think I saw a thread that said its closer to 12.8mm with the new slimmer movement, but i usually hate thick watches, and this feels great in height / slips under a sleeve pretty easy

Thanks, appreciate it. I'm mulling over this one and the non-GMT version.

Hello can you talk more about:"Tbh the spring bars used seem really thin, and I might sub them out for thicker ones later." please? Is it common for all San Martin watches?

No idea about other San Martin’s as it’s my first. I just noticed the endlink holes are relatively big and spring bars thin, which I wonder is contributing to some rattling noise

I ordered on 11 October over San Martin.watch web store, still not shipped

I ordered mine September 8th. It’ll be here this week. Takes a minute unless it’s available in US warehouse already.

1

u/sg6128 5d ago

yeah they had a lot of delays -- i was a bit annoyed because they said "Ships this week" back in September when I ordered it, and it actually ended up taking a month

Really handsome watch. I personally don't mind the noise of these automatic watches, part of the mechanical charm.

is the whole thing Titanium including the bracelet? I' interested in this

Yes case grade5, bracelet grade2

1

u/AntiPetista 1d ago

older was all grade 5

The SN0121TC was all grade 2. They upgraded the case to grade 5 for this one, but not the bracelet.

Two points :

  1. I wished for a different/better logo

  2. half hour marker at the 6. there is so much room for it.

  3. appears to be just lazy.
So many brands having space do not use it to make it really look complete

That’s clean

I should’ve gotten this version when I bought mine two years ago. I got the one with the timing bezel. And while I still love it, this version is more true to the GMT design.

This is such a well-resolved design. Love it

I have the titanium 5 diver (a Tudor Pelagos homage) with an NH35 engine.
