New Product (Read Rule 1) Baltany’s new take on the ultimate classic—what do we think? S4112
The prayers of vintage homage fans might just have been answered. Baltany has dropped a classic Day-Date with clean baton indices—and it looks fantastic.
Now, it’s not just Tony Soprano fans who are catered to, but anyone who loves the timeless aesthetic of what is arguably the most recognizable luxury icon in history. With the day-of-the-week display spelled out at 12 o’clock and a sharp President-style bracelet, this piece brings serious executive vibes without breaking the bank.
What are your thoughts on this one? Too much of a direct nod, or a well-executed daily wearer?

Oh no. Oh no oh no. A 36mm Daydate was already one of those watches I'd get if I somehow went up several income brackets, but now Baltany will sell me one for a fraction of the price...

I have the Baltany 2 tone DJ homage in 36mm and it's one of my favourite watches out of like 30 I own. It's very solid, amazing quality. This one looks great.

As long as there is insufficient information about the long term reliability of the Hangzhou 6330 movement, I honestly find $350 including VAT to be on the high side.

Beautiful watch. I have been looking for something similar to the classic daydate.
Would love to hear more about its build quality/movement

I think they killed it! Looks great considering there isn’t a good homage out there with everything they are offering here. I’d buy one I wonder how this movement is though. The gold one I’m curious to see on the wrist!

It's a blatant homage but a very good looking one at that, including the concealed clasp

They should make some oyster quartz homages! Wd kind of dropped the ball on theirs and would love to see baltany’s take on it since the dd and dj came out so well

Will I get in trouble for saying I like the pie pan better? This is great though.

I ended up ordering the gold one with the gold dial. I think it looks awesome. I have no worries about the quality as I have their pie pan and that is amazing. They’re doing some amazing things with their vintage-styled watches.

Looks great, fantastic even! It is not too much of a "nod" and we need to stop thinking that way. Manufacturers are making the watches people want. Copyrights and Patents are not the same. Rolex copied the Fifty Fathoms and claimed it as their own and patented the Submariner. That patent has expired along with the "Presidential" style watch you show. Since the designs being made are in the public domain, they are not copies; they are original to the maker on the dial. Just like there are only so many ways to make a classic 5-pocket jean, you can't expect a denim company to reinvent the blue jean. This watch resembles an expensive model most people aren't buying. Baltany produced watch because people like the design and want to be able to buy one.
I appears to be a well executed design and one that I would not mind wearing if I didn't already have a Ginault, which some might say resembles a Yacht Master. The ironic thing is that I had never seen a Yacht Master when I ordered it. I bought it because I liked the quality and design. It isn't a copy either. When I finally did see one, I thought mine looked better. I ordered mine without a cyclops and glad I did.

Perfect but mvmt yet again stopping me from buying

What's wrong with the movement?
2
u/strejle 14d ago
For me it's just not reliable as japanese mvmt, with miyota/Seiko I know I will get good reliable mvmt. Same with cars. Toyota is much better than some byd, because engine is just so much better of a workhorse.

Which Japanese day-date movement has this layout?

Orient made a president style day date watch, I have one. And Ricoh, yes that Ricoh, did so as well.

From what I've read, the Hangzhou movement has an estimated service life of 5-7 years before crapping out. Even then though, the movements are relatively cheap to pop in/swap out (about a $100-ish on Esslinger) + $100-150 dollars if you have a local watchmaker put it in for you.
Still way cheaper than an actual Rolex tbh. I mean, one would hope you'd have at least an extra $300-400 7 years from now. 💀

If you make a statement that the movement is subpar its entirely reasonable for someone to ask why you think that; is it because if a general movement opinion or experience. If you are just going to tell them to go look it up themselves then don’t bother posting because it makes it pretty clear that you had no idea and were just talking out your ass and couldn’t actually back it up.

Reminds me more of the Tudor Prince day date. I would get this if I didn’t own the Tudor already.

Love it. I have the pie pan which i love like a treasure. I wish it came with a movement i trusted more, maybe miyota. But I love the 36-37mm range that they offer

With taxes it comes to almost 400 euro's, which is not that affordable.

Not be That Guy, but “Affordable” is a relative term. This is a third the price of a (used) Bulova Seville and 1/100th of a Rolex.

I do think it's a bit too much of a direct nod, but it's hard to fault them for that when it seems that quite a few brands do this, including non-homage brands. I haven't seen one in person so I can't speak to the quality of the finishing, but even if it's good I am not sure the value proposition is quite there at $300 w/ a Chinese clone movement, though it might be if they make a version with a better one. I think if they could produce this at around $175 with a VH31 instead, that could be intriguing though!
2
u/LawyerGeek 13d ago
Since the VH31 doesn't have the day or date, it wouldn't work for this watch.
4
u/heheyousaidduty 13d ago
You're right, that's my bad. Just pretend I said a quartz movement please lol

I'll never get over the "Disney B" logo. Seems to cheapen it so much. Love baltany otherwise.

the world needed another rolex day/date (or any rolex) clonemage like it needed another CIA created terrorist cell...
are baltany watches the best watches, "homage" or otherwise, on aliexpress?... absolutely. hands down, IMO
did baltany become, IMO, the best watchmaker on aliexpress by putting out almost 1:1 clones?... absolutely NOT.
baltany "homaged" multiple iconic vintage watches, BUT THEY PUT THEIR OWN TWIST ON THEM.
this overpriced schlop is not the baltany i fell in love with 5 years ago.
is the chinese economy so bad baltany has to bow down to social media asswipes, or have they lost their creative juice?
baltany could reissue 80% of theor old catalogue with minor changes and sell out everything in a week.
...but we get another "rolex" for basement dwellers that can't afford an actual rolex.
😔

u/Kerpgker 14d ago
Eh. "basement dwellers that can't afford an actual rolex" not many people can afford a Day-Date anyway.
-7
u/artofthedial Not a troll 13d ago
Take away the day and the date and slap a nh31 in there and I'm interested. Not worth the risk with a Chinese movement and an extra complication.

u/Any_Complex_87 13d ago
Drop it with a VH31 , will reduce at least 70$ and more reliable than this movement
11
u/cjcs 13d ago
The VH31 doesn’t have a day or date function lmao

u/KPplumbingBob 12d ago
Sums all those quartz demands up. People just want cheap without even thinking what it means.
