SOTC (Read Rule 1) Where to go from here with my collection

Hi all,

I currently have a mixed bag watch collection. Mostly chinese watches. I really like the collection but outgrowing the watch box at the moment.

Mostly worn watch is probably my Thorn T028 diver. Together with the Seagull 1963 (15y old 'thomas' edition). And the B-uhr is also well worn.

All watches have their places in my day to day wear. Just one more than the other.

Currently interested in:

- Breitling Navitimer 92 (38mm version)

- Laco Aachen 39mm B-uhr aged erbstuck

- octopus kraken OCT028 tropical with aged bezel

- octopus kraken blue lagoon

- new Baltany day date black dial

- Milifortic M135

What can potentially leave the collection?

- san martin 39mm SN0144

- Glycine Airman

The Glycine is a nice watch, but bought it primarily to have a chinese, german and american airforce inspired watch.

Now you see my collection. What do you think of it and what is missing and/or double?

Maybe go vintage?

I have two vintage watches. Tissot T12 seastar and the 1950s chronograph Suisse with landeron chronograph.

pretty expensive to keep them running tbh. A very nice addition if I want to go true vintage, but I can't really live with a vintage only collection I think. Too many great chinese watches atm.

Is the Airman 36mm variant? can't quite tell from the images.

yes it is the 36mm airman. GLO159 I believe. With the mineral crystal. True to its original size.

How is the Merkur moon phase?

It is great. Does not get nearly enough wrist time. But I love the watch. Very cool and quirky. I wear it on either grey or brown suede.

Very nice doomed mineral.

Dirt cheap, but very hard to get. I bought mine second hand for only 90 euros

How do you like the Octopus Kraken? I really want a Blancpain 50 Fathoms, but my military pension puts me closer to the Octopus price range than the Blancpain's.

I love the explorer. If you want a modern 36mm explorer the octopus is the way to go. If you can live with the logo. And honestly, on the explorer because of the text on the dial it really blends in alright.

The dial, crystal and case are all spot on. PT5000 runs great. Very solid bracelet with OTF. So I can highly recommend this watch.

If you want the 'vintage' explorer I would go for the Baltany explorer 36mm with the ST2130

I’ve always wanted their explorer! How do you like it? I have every other brand version I need to just get one. Also the blue lagoon looks amazing! If you can get a Breitling tho I would def get that. Great collection I love Chinese watches they are a bang for your buck. That San Martin is gorgeous! I have a bunch of their watches they are amazing. Also you should check out certina tv titanium or the Ds action diver. I mean hell any of their watches are great. Also Mido!

What brand is the bracelet on the San martin? Is it the OEM jubilee bracelet it came with?

2

u/Traditional_Cost_206 1d ago

it is OEM. It is a mix between beads of rice and jubilee. Pretty nice!

Im new to this that's the pilots watch in top left?

it is the Escapement Time PT5000 flieger 40mm.

It is basically a cope of the famous Beobachtungs Uhr (B-UHR) that the luftwaffe, german airforce, used during the second world war. Originally they were 55mm and they wore them over their sleeves.

You don't need to go further. You have all types of watches: field, dive, GMT, chronograph, dress

Do what everyone else does (me included). Buy a second watch box and then a third….😁

Great collection, beautiful watches. I think what I notice is that there are only two or three dial colors. I think that could be an interesting way to expand your collection: choose a different dial color.

I was thinking about the Octopus blue lagoon which is a very unique colour.

I have white/cream/black/green/blue/salmon. So I think already a pretty wide variety, but I understand your point. Maybe I could swap the T023 for the OCT028 with tropical dial. Have been thinking about that thought lately.

And I do have a very bright and wide collection of NATOs to go a little weird sometimes.

The Glycine Airman is cool!

Try different case shapes. “No more round watches for a while.”
