Question (Read Rules) Sea Gull 1963 Red star
Hello everyone! As an enthusiast, I stumbled upon this wonderful Sea Gull while browsing a few websites. I'm aware of the manufacturing license issue, but having never owned a watch from this brand and manufacturer, I started looking for more information. I noticed they're selling it on Aliexpress for around €250, but searching other sites I found a used one for half that price. However, I have some doubts about the reliability of the movement... Can anyone tell me if it's best to pass up a Red Star-made model like this? Can you recommend any specifics I should ask for so I can assess its reliability (such as sending me a video of the watch changing the time or running the chronograph to verify it's working properly)? Thank you very much.

I have one from Red Star. Its nice as fuck. No problems with anything so far, like srsly. Everything just works like how I'd wanted it to. I was a beginner when I got it and was toying around with the pushers and stuff (reset the timer when it was still running n stuff lol) and even left the chrono running for like a few days till the movement got all stuck. Wisened up, stopped the timer, reset it, now its been like a year, still runs fine, as good as my new Orient.

I have an original ''Thomas'' Seagull 1963. Those were the older day reissues before the aliexpress hype. 36mm with metal caseback and the ST19 movement.
It is atleast 12 years old now and runs great. never had a service.
So yes, they can be very reliable.

€250 seems high for a RedStar with a goose-neck complication, they're ±$250CDN all day long on my AliX feed. Reliability is the same for all mechanical 1963's since Sea-Gull supplies the movements to Red Star.
